Ratings for Dr. John A. Straka
Wasn't seen until 40 minutes after my appointment time, and my paperwork took longer to fill out than the actual ear appointment. The nurse was nice but the doctor was clueless. I came to find relief for chronic hearing loss and near-constant tinnitus and his advice was "just ignore it". Also the office has zero privacy at all -- multiple patients are being seen in the same room simultaneously! I will definitely be searching for another doctor.
Every time I have an appointment for my yearly allergy checkup, Dr. Straka is "running behind." My last appointment was at 9:00 AM and I still had to wait for over an hour in the waiting room. Once would be understandable, but this happens every time I come in, regardless of the day or time I schedule my appointment. I am currently looking for a new ENT practice.

I had sudden hearing loss in my right ear. I first called another ear doctor who was willing to let me wait a week to see him. I called Dr Straka's office. The receptionist told me I needed to come in immediately. I saw Dr Straka that day,he put me on steroids and my hearing is back in only 3 days!
Dr. Straka has dealt with my ear problems for the past 30 years. About 35 years ago after repeated visits to my eye/ear/nose & throat doctor, he determined that my eustachian tubes do not function well and eventually installed tubes in my ears to equalize the pressure and to prevent fluid from forming behind the eardrum. When he retired, he recommended Dr. Straka. I have been with Dr. Straka ever since. My experience is that he is a knowledgeable and skilled surgeon with whom I have been completely satisfied. When my youngest daughter was 2 years old, we noticed that she was not speaking. For 6 months her pediatrician completely missed the fact that she had an ear infection and was not hearing properly. Dr. Straka found the problem immediately and corrected it. soon afterward my daughter was speaking. I personally know of people who were up against it financially who Dr. Straka has treated without charge. I cannot recommend this doctor too strongly.
I saw the elder Dr. Straka about a year ago regarding a problem I had with my voice. I do a great deal of public speaking to large crowds and was obviously quite concerned. His overall "professional opinion" was that I should speak less. REALLY? 8 years of medical school and I should speak less??? About 8 months later I had a problem with ringing in my ears. This time I thought I'd give junior a chance. He recommended an MRI, which I believe was more to cover his xxx than diagnose my problem, since he said the odds they'd find something was more than 10,000 to 1. I mentioned I really only hear the ringing when I lay my head down to sleep. He then recommended I go to sleep with the radio on. REALLY? I can tell the two are related. I am very disappointed with both Stakas and would not recommend either.
