I have only had him as a dr the last 7 months and have had no issues with him. He is thorough and explains things so I understand. I just wish he would prescribe meds 6 months at a time instead of only 3 months.

i am new to port alberni. dr sander was the only doc i could get into. what a joke. never deals with my issues. he prescribed something that made me sick and i told him and he said nothing. i am a big woman and we have discussed me losing weight. thats all he talks about. i have been heavy all my life. in my 50s, he doesnt need to constantly point it out. the last time i was in there he stared and stared at my chest and stomach. i was very uncomfortable and almost in tears. always have to wait, while he does nothing in his office. i also agree his receptionist is beyond rude and never friendly. shouldnt be in customer service. he gets nothing done. i agree with all of these reviews..he needs to retire. im not going back. i will go to nanaimo

Just over two years ago, I was in Port Alberni for a visit over the Easter weekend. I had been feeling extremely lethargic and weak - in fact, I had spent the previous days in bed as my energy was almost non-existent - and I had had a a high temperature for a few days before arriving at my parents'. In addition, I had a horrendous cough. Both my mother and husband insisted I get to the ER that night to officially diagnose my problem. I had the misfortune of being diagnosed by Dr. Sanders. He had blood samples and a urine sample taken, and had my heart rate monitored, etc. However, he did not do one of the most obvious tests - a chest x-ray. After four hours, he informed me that I simply had a nasty virus and that I needed to go home and rest. Well, after returning to the Mainland the next week, I was not getting any better. I had no energy to work or look after my children. My husband then insisted I go to a walk-in clinic, and the doctor there took a listen to my lungs, and said he was 99% certain it was pneumonia. He immediately gave me a prescription for antibiotics and sent me to get a chest x-ray. And, what do you know - I had pneumonia. It took a couple more weeks to clear up, but imagine if I had been diagnosed properly in the first place. I could have been saved a couple of weeks of agony. Dr. Sanders is certainly not a doctor who should be in any ER!

I have never met a physician as incompetent as Dr.Sander. The lack of knowledge, care and passion from this man is an embarrassment to all physicians out there. Both my bothers are Doctors and hearing story after story we are saddened to hear about all unethical practices that go on in this clinic. He has shown many malpractices to my family already, we have been waiting for a referral for a year now, countless phone calls to his clinics and mistreatments/diagnosis. We recently found out that one of family members has major disease which he has missed, we now will be travelling to Nanaimo to get proper care. I wish he or his staff would take the time to read these reviews and actually hear what the public is saying. Take this criticism and better yourself as a human being, Dr. Sander chose this profession to help people but he has no interest in doing so therefore he should leave this profession immediately. My family and I currently working on finding a way to make sure he loses his medical license as he is an unethical doctor. Please anyone who reads this review, save you and your family members from this physician.

Saw Dr. Sander in the Emergency Department on several different occasions and I cannot and do not trust his professional opinion. I took my daughter into the ER and she was complaining of jaw pain that radiated into her ear, it was causing her vision to double and she could barely talk. He diagnosed her without even looking at her saying she has what's called the 'suicide disease' meaning trigmenial neuralgia. WRONG! I wasn't comfortable with his opinion and his delivery method on telling me my daughter at 22 has a disease that people kill themselves over because of the terrible pain that has no treatment was deplorable. Because mother instincts took over I didn't settle for his diagnosis it turns out she had a cracked tooth causing her nerve pains. The prescription he gave my daughter would have killed her had I given it to her! Thanks for a long stressful night and more suffering my daughter had to endure. Please retire.

This rude, dangerous menace to society, should never have received his medical license. He is unfit. Period. DO NOT GET THIS MAN FOR YOUR PHYSICIAN . There are always two doctors in Emergency, do not chose him no matter what. He is incompetent at best, a threat to your health at worst. If the other Doctor is busy, go to Nanaimo! You won't regret it, no other alternative....
