Ratings for Dr. Michael Keating
I had a partial hysterectomy due to cancer in my early 20's and had my own OBGYN for a physical as I dont feel comfortable being examined by a male. I accidentally missed my one year appointment with my OBGYN and needed to be re referred. He refused to refer me and said now that I no longer have a uterus I will no longer be needing a physical. He was dropped as my doctor immediately after my OBGYN had some not so pg rated words for his arrogance.
Dr Keating has been my family doctor for years...but never seems to remember me. I recently started seeing him more often for various issues. He has made innappropriate comments to me regarding number of intimate partners, and even commented on the colour of my underwear while examining my abdomen. I brushed it off, as I know from experience that he can be quite awkward. I agree with many of the reviews that state that he never looks at the whole picture of health - never considers my past medical history or past visits. I will say that when I saw him for an issue of anxiety he was quite helpful and counselled me, but was also quick to prescribe medication. Recently I have had no patience for him or his nursing staff as for two months I have been trying to get a prescription renewed and been unable to get a hold of the office to clarify the issue. He had refused to renew the prescription based on false information that I had already filled it. I have lost patience after two months of attempting to sort this issue with no support and am going to drop him as my physician.
I was very pleased when I started seeing Keating a few years ago- he seemed to take his time with me and there was never a long wait to see him. However, since then my health issues have become more complex and I feel that Dr. Keating has hurt more than helped. He advised I stop taking a medication I had been stable on for over 10 years, and then when I went back to say I wasn't doing well, he said that I never needed to stop taking it. How maddening! I have not been able to get back to the healthy state I was at since, which was over 1 yr ago. I was pleased when he admitted that I had exhausted his expertise in this particular area of health care, and that he was going to refer me to a specialist. Unfortunately, he failed to put the referral through, and I found out 3 months later that it was not done. He does have his hand on the doorknob a lot of the time, when you actually manage to see him if he is not on vacation, though this is why there is no wait time I'm sure.
He has been my family dr for years however recently i started to go to him because of symptoms that i have been having. He was always quick to dismiss me and give a new medication. Could never remember what i've been seeing him for therefor never conected the dots. He kept telling me that i was too young to have health problems. So off to emerg on two occasions and they quickly new something was wrong it was just a matter of figuring out what. Well after one test they found out and it turns out my symptoms were for something quite severe and at this point waiting to find out how much damage has been done. Dr Keating admitted he was wrong but now i have no faith in him at all as my family dr. I would rather to go a clinic or emerg from this point on instead of going to see him :(
I previously submitted a less favourable review but have found lately that he's been improving. His bedside manner seems to be better and it feels like he's attempting to take more time in his diagnosis. He assessed me and explained his thoughts and didn't waste time prescribing or referring. He seemed to care.
most of the times i went there he told me to take off my top and did not offer me a gown or leave the room. one time i asked the nurse to stay in the room. i was having breathing problems and this time he didn't ask me to take my top off. i was concerned about cancer b/c it runs in my family. he said i should be more concerned about breast cancer and told me to come back in 2 weeks for a breast exam and a pap smear. about 2 weeks later, i had a letter appear in my mailbox telling me i've been referred for counselling. i called the office and the receptionist told me it was meant for someone else. hmm.. i find him very creepy and finally got a different doctor. would never let my teen daughter go to see Dr. Keating.
I hate going to see Dr.Keating because I always feel rushed. He never remembers what my medical problems are.He misdiagnosed my and I ended up having a heart attack because if it.He goes "on vacation"more than he works.I would love to change doctors but I can't because there is such a shortage of them.My last dr. left town and they just stuck me with him.No one I know likes him as a doctor.
I find Dr. Keating to be on and off during visits. I feel uncomfortable seeing him, and find myself hesitant to go to my Dr. He seems to find quick solutions and rarely follows up. He doesn't ask about previous medical issues upon your next visit. He doesn't seem to ever have a clear picture of what is going on with his patients as a whole, but is only concerned with the problem at hand. He does not do physicals, which is discouraging. He also seems to be quick to assume people are self diagnosing themselves, but when you have a doctor that is hard to approach and does not want to give you an exam, external resources seem to be the only solution. I would like to switch doctors, it is unfortunate that there is such a shortage in this city. I am frustrated with my health concerns and the idea of booking an appointment with Dr. Keating only adds to the stress and frustration.
