I HAVE VISITED DR MEERHOLTZ TWICE NOW SINCE MOVING TO FORT MCMURRAY. I HAD PREVIOUSLY TRIED ANOTHER DOCTOR AND WAS NOT AT ALL IMPRESSED. DR MEERHOLTZ IS NOT CANADIAN AND I THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE STRUCK BY HIS SENSE OF HUMOUR AND BED SIDE MANNER BUT IN THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES PEOPLE WOULD APPRECIATE THE TYPE OF PERSON HE IS. I HAVE BEEN HAPPY WITH HIS SERVICE AND HAVE ASKED NUMEROUS QUESTIONS WITH REGARD TO MY HEALTH AND HE HAS BEEN MORE THAN ACCOMODATING TO ANSWER THEM TO THE BEST OF HIS ABILITY. IF YOU WANT TO KNOW SOMETHING THE BEST THING TO DO IS ASK.
I have found most doctors in Fort McMurray severely overworked. I have been a patient of Dr. Meerholt's for about 4 years now. I think he does great work. As a patient it is your responsibility to work with your doctor to advise and inform them what you think is wrong and start a constructive dialouge.
did not do a properly exam my mother and diagnosed her with ostioporosis when in fact, she had a broken hip. this lead to her death as she was asthmatic and her lungs filled up because of not being able to move properly. she suffered for a month with a broken hip at the age of 80 years old. he was reprimanded by the medical association and had to take a course on ostioporosis and it is on his record. i would go to edmonton EVERY time i needed to rather than step one foot in his office. overworked or not!!
I had one child that was sick - and was prescribed an antibiotic.. Brought 2nd child in a week later with another illness - and he suggested I just give the 2nd daughter some of the medication from the first child - Took 2 child to Edmonton for a second opintion and she had an irritable bowl - Not that all Dr's need to have the exact answer -but if he'd spent more that 5 mins with her and asked acouple more questions - I would have been a little more comfortable - than him assuming she just could just pop a couple other childs medication to feel better
I have gone to this doctor quite a bit as it was the only walk in clinic in Ft. Mcmurray...so really it was the only choice I had. The first question he always seems to ask is, "How many days do you need off work?" Well like really, do I need to miss work EVERYTIME I come in???? I had a friend who is 25 years old, and asked for Viagra, and he gave it to him!!! Like hilarious! A 25 year old who has impotency problems?!?!? come on! So my friend laughed about the fact that you pretty much could get anything from this guy!!!
Dr Meerholz I found to be very patient, dry sense of humour yes, but didn't quit until he found the problem I was having and solved it for me!! I would still be in pain if it wasn't for his persistance! Fort McMurray is a very busy place with a shortage in Doctor's, Dr Meerholz is a welcome Dr in my mind!
Dr. Meerholz is good if you need a quick prescription. He is quick to hand them out without a real checkup. His comments towards women are often quite inappropriate for a professional office. Smacking bottoms with a clipboard, tickling tummies during examination or other inappropraite comments about perhaps taking off shirts are unacceptable. If you can get past that, he seems to be an intelligent man who can ably treat his patients. A little more time spent with patients wouldn't hurt to address concerns. I know he is busy but people care very much about their health and a little more discussion could either bring new information to light or help to alleviate concerns aiding in mental wellness as well as physical.
