Best doctor I have ever had. He is kind, caring and thorough doing what it takes to find the cause of your health issue. I have lived in several cities in BC and have never had better care anywhere than with Dr. Pereira. My whole family, including my parents who are in their 90's, feel very fortunate to have such a reliable family practitioner. While you might have to sit in the waiting room for a while, we have never felt rushed or given the feeling he wanted to move on to the next patient. Excellent doctor!
I have been going to Dr. Pereira for several years and have seen a steady decline in the quality of his care. He seems to be more interested in taking the notes onto the computer than looking at you and assessing your concerns. Perhaps a more "hands on approach" like before would serve us all better. Also, if he tries a person on a certain medication and it causes side-effects, he gets frustrated with you and appears very disgusted! I think he should look at things from the patient's prospective more often and be more understanding. His MOA can be very snippy at times and needs a lesson in communication and compassion. The former MOA was Elaine and she was wonderful!! We sure miss her!! Perhaps Dr. Pereira is overworked but he needs to do more time doing assessments and less on the computer !!
Honestly the best doctor ever. So unbelievably caring, has gotten to know our entire family of 3 generations and remembers them. Follows through, follows up, saves lives and always refers us to specialists when needed, never makes us feel foolish for coming in. I didn't know we could have care like this in our society in this generation. Bless you Dr. P!
I have been with Dr. Pereria since he first moved to Nanaimo (about 15 years) and he has always been compassionate, he truly listens, he will send for tests or specialists. His manner is very gentle and kind. Susan is amazing and she always helps me get in to see him very quickly if it's urgent. I never feel like he can't wait for me to leave, although he is in a hurry as Dr's always are. Having to wait an hour to see him, doesn't bother me anymore. Because when I really need his time, and it takes longer than a quick visit, he gives me his full attention, so I feel if he can give me that extra time, then he is also giving it to his other patients, so I'm happy for them too. I always say...bring a book...relax a bit! lol...It does bother me with doctors that you actually have to ask to have a physical or have this test or medications, but all the doctors on the island are the same it seems. They are swamped, I really think this is the issue. I love Dr. P and highly recommend him. I feel so blessed beyond words for his care all of these years.
We've been with Dr Pereira for 7 or so years but have noticed a steady decline in his service. The wait times are typically an hour and when you do finally get him he's rushed. In 7 years he's never even once suggested I should have a physical and when I asked him for a prostate test at 40, he sent me away for a blood count. I think he's more interested in filling his apt book that he is helping people. I think his new sign stating 'we cannot estimate how long your wait will be' sums it up nicely.
We have been seeing Dr. Pereira since he first arrived in Nanaimo. Our family is so grateful to have had his expertise and guidance. We have recently lost our father and Dr. P. gave us all the time we needed as a family and as individuals to get through the time up to Opa's death and after. He has gotten to know us as a family and takes the time to understand the dynamics and special needs of us as siblings and with families of our own. He also really appreciates when we do our own research and share what we have learned, he is always interested. Dr. P. also has a special place in his heart for teenagers as he always asks about my son and when he is with him gives his full attention and support. We have never felt anything but care and respect and good judgement from this dear man. Dr. Pereira is always there for us and we would recommend him to all ages for excellent care.
Dr Pereira has been my Doctor for eight years. I find him very helpful and willing to listen. He doesn't dismiss your feelings and the research you've done. A good doctor! Like all doctors, though, he could keep more up to date with studies and new findings, but I find him very helpful and if he doesn't find the problem, he will recommend you to a specialist.
I moved to Nanaimo just over 6 months ago and Dr. P was accepting new patients. I have never had a problem getting in to see him. His receptionist Elaine is excellent, always kind, helpful and accommodating with appointments or if I need to cancel. Dr. P himself is a very kind, helpful person. He listens to my concerns and addresses them accordingly. Sometimes he runs late, which is understandable and they are backlogged. But he always sends me for tests and refers to me other dr's and never overlooks any details. Took time out during my son's first visit to ensure any of my concerns or questions as a new parent were answered. Overall am happy being in is care and would recommend him to others looking for a good long term family practitioner.
