After medical school he completed his fellowship training in spinal reconstruction surgery before starting clinical practice in 1996.\r\n\r\nDr. Carmody is actively involved in clinical research and is a member of the Complex Spine Study Group, the Scoliosis Research Society, the North American Spine Society and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is a primary investigator for the FDA study evaluating the safety and efficacy of the Kineflex/C Artificial Cervical Disc Replacement.\r\n\r\nDr. Carmody is a thoughtful and caring physician who takes time with his patients to explain in plain terms their diagnosis and treatment options. He is well-versed on minimally invasive techniques and motion preservation technologies. He frequently recommends surgery only when the potential benefits well outweigh the risks. He sees complex spine referrals from all around the region and is well-respected for his diagnostic and surgical skills. Being worthy of his patients’ trust is of paramount importance to him.\r\n\r\nDr. Carmody lives in Plano with his wife and two children. Texas Back Institute and Up & Open Imaging MRI both missed I had a cyst at L-5 which was causing lower leg pain and excruciating ankle pain to the point I could barely walk due to pain for eight months. My TBI doctor left the practice and I saw another doctor who immediately saw the cyst on L-5 but thought my problem was \"maybe\" or \"possibility\" caused by the L-5 Lumbar Vertebra being out of alignment and pressing on the sciatic nerve and recommended a \"soft fusion.\" No one in their right mind has back fusion without the doctor being certain about the diagnoses. I saw Dr. Carmody for a second opinion and he said, \"He didn't see anything screaming fusion.\" and recommended the less invasive procedure of removing the cyst first.\r\nI woke up from surgery and the pain was gone. The healing process wasn't bad and physical therapy helped me regain the strength I had lost sitting around for eight months. It has been a year since my surgery and I have no further problems with pain in my lower leg or ankle. Dr. Carmody is friendly, takes the time to answer all your questions and does a very thorough physical.
