Ratings for Dr. Joan R. Golub
I am very surprised by the 5 star comments here. I have to agree with almost everything people have wrote here. I had a fantastic OBGYN for 5 years, and because of moving I ended up with Dr. Golub. Everything about it was awful. I went three times and ALWAYS waited at least an HOUR without any explanation. On my first visit, I asked why it was taking so long, and the receptionist looked at me a rudely replied, " The first visit takes about 2.5 hours," and then scolded me for thinking I could be in and out in 1 hour. I just went in for a birth control refill! She also tried to charge me a $15 dollar late fee for not having cash/check on me. I was never told they didn't except credit until I got there. Dr. Golub diagnosed me with something fairly serious without being sure of it, and made it almost impossible to get follow ups with her. I finally found another OBGYN to discuss this issue with, and I neededed my records from Dr. Golub. After giving her plenty of notice, the receptionist calls me the day before and says she is closing in an hour and I need to pick these up if I want them because they won't send them. Additionally they charge you $25 dollars for your own records!!!! Never in my life has this happened. Honestly, there a bazillion fantastic doctors on this block alone. Go somewhere else.
I also have to second the poor rating for office personnel competence. Perhaps Dr. Golub's long-time patients are ignoring the signs of obvious disorganization of that office and a total disregard of common courtesy on the administrative side of things because they might have been familiar with this staff at a nicer, gentler point in their lives. For my visit, after more than an hour's wait with no explanation (including staff taking lunch), the visit was rushed and "diagnosis" conclusory. I felt that my time and travel there were completely wasted. The last time I, too was so upset that I swore I would never set foot in that place again.
I just came across these reviews Nd had to add my comment. I saw Dr. Golub over 20 years ago as I started on infertility treatment. I liked the doctor but her office manager/receptionist was an absolute nightmare...rude, condescending, even bullying. I had to stop seeing Dr. Golub because I couldn't stand to deal with that woman anymore. I also felt I couldn't complain about her to the doctor because it was my impression that they were close friends. The doctor once prescribed a certain kind of medication and I was uneasy about it after reading more about it. I called the office, hoping to be able to ask the doctor a few more questions regarding my concerns, and the office manager...preying on my infertility struggles and my desperate wish to get pregnant... very rudely told me that my chances of having a baby would be highest if I just followed the doctor's suggestions and didn't ask any questions. That was it for me, I couldn't deal with her anymore.
The humiliation I experienced before and during my today's visit to Dr. Golub is beyond expressing. I'm patient here for about three years. My previous OB/GYN doctor whose patient I was for 15 years is retired so that is how I came to Dr. Golub. My experience there wasn't great but was tolerable up until today. The receptionist/office manager is very rude. She demands everything in a way like she is talking to prisoner in penitentiary. This office always demands co-pay up front before visit in cash or check. They are probably the only doctors office left in the US that do not accept credit cards. I had my usual amount of copay in cash however turned out that this time I had to pay $35 instead of usual $20 and so I didn't have enough cash and I don't carry checks with me. So I was told that Bank of America ATM is right around the corner. I obediently went because entire scene was deeply humiliating to me however I very rarely get cash thru ATM and realized that I forgot my PIN so I came back empty handed. The receptionist told me that I have to discuss this matter with doctor and when previous patient left she went in to the office to talk to Dr. Golub behind closed doors. When I was called into the Dr.Golub office first thing that she said to me was: "you know dear you might have problems with collection agency". I will never ever set my foot in that office again. I wanted to warn others to avoid this disastrous office.
I am very dissatisfied with my experience at the office. I decided my one visit was enough because I did not like the very impolite and gruff manner of the office manager, the office was musty and smelly, and I felt uncomfortable with the bedside manner of the doctor. The doctor used slang terminology to describe things that you discuss during an ob/gyn visit, which I found bizarre and strange. I am paying seemingly endless bills from my one visit, and I don't even know the results of my tests (because I did not go in for the follow up, but this is still very frustrating), now up to $130 for one visit (and my insurance has paid almost $1000!!). I called to express my dissatisfaction with the doctor, and my hope to relieve this last final bill, but she did not offer to ameliorate my situation at all. This is why I'm here to let you know about it. I cannot believe that these other reviewers actually went to the same doctor and doctor's office. AVOID!!!!
Dr. Golub takes her time with you. She listens, suggests tests, offers options for treatment and helps with decision making. She was wonderful when I had surgery; she has a kind, caring manner and treats you like you are a member of her family. She is very knowledgeable regarding current methods and I highly recommend her.
Dr. Golub is one of the most competent and professional doctors I have ever visited. That said, she is also one of the most caring and compassionate people, helping me through a very difficult time with her thoughtfulness. I would highly recommend Dr. Golub to any of my female family members or friends.
