My girlfriend was rushed to the cobequid emergency room with trouble breathing and chest pain. She has a heart condition and only one proper working lung and Is susceptible to pneumonia. She has had viral pneumonia before and knows the symptoms. Sure enough, both doctors at the cobequid emergency and one nurse all agreed after looking at her chest xrays and symptoms that she did in fact have pneumonia. She was treated briefly at the cobequid and then sent to the qe2. This is where we unfortunately we're placed with Dr. Peatrie. He came in with an instant arrogance about himself and stated my gf did not have pneumonia because she did not have a high fever. Viral pneumonia does not insist on the person having a high fever and she had been on cold/flu medicine for a few days which would control any fever that may have occurred. Her oxygen levels stayed low and her heart rate was at an average of 128 and reached 163 when she was asked to take a short walk in the hallway. Dr peatrie stated this was normal and she would be fine with her inhalers and sent her on her way. Before leaving we asked Dr peatrie if he could please write no substitute on her inhaler prescription as the generic brand does not work as well and the pharmacist asked that we have no substitute written by the doctor on her prescriptions so that no confusion with the generic version happens again. Dr peatrie rudely shot back "no". We explained to him what the pharmacist asked us to do and he again rudely shot back "no I'm not doing that it's up to them what they want to give you, it won't make a difference ". We left and went to the pharmacy where again they told us the doctor could have and should have wrote "no substitution " on the prescription and could not understand why he was against it. My girlfriend still is having trouble breathing and we are headed back to cobequid shortly. A misdiagnosis of pneumonia is how she lost the use of one of her lungs to begin with. Thanks for nothing Dr peatrie, you are the absolute most unprofessional physician we have ever encountered not to mention the least caring.
