Ratings for Dr. Ronald A. Popper
I have never been treated so poorly by a doctor in all my 37 years. First, as another reviewer stated, you have to jump through hoops to get an appointment. Fine. I jumped. Had my appointment and was recommended for a sleep study. I definitely needed it. I was in the process of changing insurance as I got a new job and the receptionist had to verify prior to the study. The appointment was sent but insurance coverage was NEVER verified. So I had no idea if I should go to the study or not. I called the office that day to verify, but they are closed on Fridays. Nice. Had the study, the technician was awesome! Had my 1st follow up. Got a CPAP machine which is fantastic! I have severe sleep apnea. Now today I had my 1st follow up after getting the CPAP. I have already taken a ton of time off work dealing with this. I had forgotten the disk they need so I had to turn around and get it causing me to be 15 min late. They called me in, took vitals and then proceeded to make me wait for 45 min. Then the nurse came in and told me I had to make another appointment! Seriously??? They clearly don't respect patients time and I got punished for being late. My bad, I get it. But they could have told me when I came in, not almost an hour later to reschedule. The doctor is very arrogant and has zero personality. I complimented his sleep tech and he barely even responded. The nurse is even worse. The driest personality I have ever seen! No emotion, just walks around like a zombie. She clearly loves her job. And the receptionist is there for eye candy, but clearly is lacking in the brain cell department. Needless to say, I'm finding another doctor! One who actually shows a little care and concern for his patients.
I had two overnight sleep studies with Dr Popper. It is a one size fits all approach and you will be given the same appliance they give to every patient. If you have nasal obstruction, you breath through your mouth when you sleep, etc there is a good chance the therapy he prescribes will not work. If it does not work he is not interested in hearing from you. He will refer you to the company that sells the CPAP and they will basically just tell you what you already read in the instruction manual and tell you to keep trying. CPAP can be life changing and I am sure if the off-the-shelf set up works for you your experience will seem fantastic; hence all the positive reviews.
Staff was polite and professional. However, at a follow up appointment on 7-28-14, I was uncertain of a recommendation Dr. Popper made. He became arrogant and condescending. I believe it is a doctor's responsibility to listen to their patients and not try and push a treatment. Very unprofessional. It doesn't matter how much a doctor knows, if he doesn't care about his patients' needs and concerns.
I have so much to say that I don't know where to start. I was very apprehensive before my first meeting with Dr. Popper, but from the moment I walked in the door everyone, from Ellen at the front desk to Lori, the nurse who took my vitals and completed my chart, to Robin the office manager, made me feel completely comfortable and much less anxious. When I met with Dr. Popper, he also put me at ease as we discussed the completed questionnaire I had submitted a few days earlier. He explained things very clearly. I never felt rushed. And I left with a good understanding of what was to come next. I'm now learning to sleep with CPAP and I cannot tell you how grateful I am to Dr. Popper and his entire staff for what they've done. I know that my life is going to change for the better when I'm sleeping well and sleeping through the entire night on a regular basis. THANK YOU to everyone at Southern California Pulmonary and Sleep Disorders Medical Center.
I had an incredible experience with Dr. Popper and am happy to recommend him and his team to anyone suffering from sleep problems. He was extremely professional and knowledgable in his approach to diagnosing and treating my insomnia and now is someone that I would have no hesitation in calling if I ever struggled with insomnia again.
Everything was well explained to me at both the office visit and the sleep clinic study. Dr. Popper walked me through all my options for treatment of my sleep disorder. I would recommend Dr. Popper and his sleep clinic to anyone suffering from sleep apnea or other related sleep disorders.
Sometimes he is running late for my appointment. But I always request a late afternoon appointment and by the end of the day, he may be running a little behind. However; I believe that is due to the fact that he is such a great doctor that everyone wants to see him and he does not rush you through. He takes the time to discuss your issues and then explain what needs to be done to help you.
The office staff is very efficient and helpful. I like the fact that Dr. Popper listens to his patients concerns and doesn't try to 'force' any one modality of treatment. I tried another CPAP alternative through a dentist with very poor results (and resultant damage to my bite). I went into Dr. Popper having made the decision that I wanted to try ProVent and did NOT want a CPAP. He told me what my chances were for success with ProVent. I landed on the positive end of statistics and got very good results. At the onset, I asked Dr. Popper what my alternatives were if ProVent didn't work and I didn't want a CPAP, and he indicated a willingness to work with me to find an acceptable resolution to my sleep problems. I am very picky with doctors and really appreciate a doctor that listens to his patients.
