My 19 year old daughter was sent to VGH PAU in error with hyponatremic delirium and cerebral edema. She had developed SIADH, a fatal side effect of all psychiatric medications. She was covered in abrasions after falling down delirious with a fatal medical condition. Dr. Sanddrehashemi failed to transfer my daughter to ICU, failed to obtain medical consultation, failed to discontinue Escitalopram, failed to treat her electrolyte imbalance, failed to order an MRI and discharged her home, 40 lbs underweight with cerebral edema to develop osmotic demyelination syndrome and permanent brain damage 4 days later. 4 VGH PAU psychiatrists didn't know that a sodium level of 124 was critical or that hyponatremia is associated with cerebral encephalopathy or that it is caused by psychiatric medications.

Dr. Sandrehashemi is an inpatient psychiatrist at VGH. The staff rating reflects my opinion of the union-protected workers who set the tone for the psych wards. IMO, all staff are responsible for their code of silence with regards to the abuses committed by the few--and the unprofessional conduct that's commonplace. (Yes, I believe patient confidentiality is deserved even by psych patients...) Within this dysfunctional working environment, Dr. Sandrehashemi exemplifies professionalism, respect for the patient, intelligence, compassion, and a sense of humor.
