I saw Dr. Canter for a 2d opinion about another dr's diagnosis & treatment plan for prostate cancer. We talked for about 20 min. - no lab work, no BP or pulse check, no specimens, no Rx, no exam, no treatment, no treatment recommendation. And no 2d opinion. He answered some questions for me, & told me he couldn't give me a 2d opinion b/c it had been over 2 yrs. since I'd had a biopsy. He knew this before the appt. b/c I'd provided all the info his staff asked for. The charge was $507. After the ins. adjustmt., I'm responsible for $335. He could easily have told me before the appt. that he couldn't help me till I got a biopsy. Instead, he had me come in & pay $335 for a 20-min. chat. I worked thru the Clinic's patient advocate & my ins. co. advocate to try to get the chg. lowered to a reasonable amt., to no avail.
