Ratings for Dr. John Gillis
Referred to this ER doctor for pain mgmt. Does not have extensive knowledge of pain mgmt. beyond the basics. Became very ill with gastroparesis following opioid therapy and he refused to even acknowledge it despite marked weight loss, dehydration, and slmost-constant vomiting. Told this disgnosis of gastroparesis "was a stretch" despite medical proof. Very reluctant to believe a patient's pain ratings, and poo-poos complaints of pain. Nit dependable with medical/insurance/CPP or disability paperwork. Late for almost every appointment, sometimes walking in the door if the clinic up to 35 minutes after my appt. time. Very condescending and belittling to patients when source of pain is beyond his scope. Not overly qualified fir complicated medical pain syndromes. I do wonder if the CPM Pain Management chain of clinics is even aware of how shoddily he runs his practice and treats patients. Am debating whether to file a complaint with the NS College of Physicians. This MD really shook my confidence in the ability to treat pain adequately. Luckily, I fiund a GP who understands pain syndroms, and left Dr. Gillis' clinic.
I travel from Cape Breton monthly to see Dr Gillis and he's totally worth the trip! No matter how much pain I am in he can always make me laugh! Not too many Drs could stick a needle in my head & neck and make me laugh! But he sure does! And his staff is one of a kind!!
Dr.Gilli's is one of the best doctors I have ever gone to in my life. He's caring, understanding, gental and kind. He's truly amazing. He gives me ten needles in my back almost every week. Although I'm in an extreme amount of pain. He always makes sure to ask me if I'm OK and handles me with such care. He's always dressed for success is always polite, thorough and extremely smart. I am so glad I have him as my pain specialist. He gives me relief when I thought there was none.I tell you if you if you need a great Doctor he's it.
Without his help , I would still be in the pain that I am when I cannot reach him from the artificial that stand in my way of medical treatment. These artificial is no joke and I have a very hard time to find ways to overcome them . Most of the time I spend my time in pain looking for ways to occupy my mind , trying not to think of the pain that keeps me in tears . Without a doubt I am in his dept and will remain a loyal client of his as long as he will have me
I have been a patient of Dr. gillis for chronic Back pain for 6 years and he has given me my life back. He is not a drug pusher but a great Doctor. I dont know how I have seen a couple of negative comments about him on other sites but I believe they are just wanting something they dony need. His staf are great and so is he. I have nothing bad to say about his manner of practicing. I have recommended him to a couple of people who have gotten referals from their G.P., and they all feel the same way as me. He is non judgemental and knows all about pain and how people suffer. he's rated a 5 of 5 in books all the way. Mike LeFort
I think Dr. Gillis is wonderful! I had my first appointment with him and after 14 years of back and leg pain and not wanting surgery as I am only 42 he is the first doctor willing to work with me in hopes to get as much relief as possible! Living in Ontario, Europe and now Nova Scotia and more specialists and surgeons than I care to count! Today was the first day ever I have walked out of a doctors office with hope! Thanks Dr. Gillis!
I have been seeing Dr Gillis for 3 months. I feel compelled to write this. First of all, those of you who find his beside manor lacking, go spend 6 weeks in a hospital & give your time to a sick patient! Dr Gillis is NOT YOUR DRUG DEALER, if you have a legitimate problem he is your Doctor, & a very good Doctor. I have never had to wait for him, have always been treated with the utmost respect & care. He's BUSY, I've heard him on the radio Channel 95.7 news speaking from BALISE, no matter if he was on a personal vacation or not he still kept his obligation. I've seen him in the ER, & in his office, in all fairness he isn't there to stroke your ego, he's there to fix your problems. Those of you who make the comment that he comes across as "ARROGANT"~ speaking with confidence & being direct does not mean ARROGANCE! Look @ yourself and ask if you have a pain or drug problem. I think he's the best Dr I know. Cynthia L. Arkens
