Ratings for Dr. Eric A. Yancy
We initially appreciated that Dr. Yancy was a non-interventionist, hands-off old-school doctor. My son was born with reflux and we took all the proper measures to remedy it without medicating... keeping him on an incline and upright, eliminating things from my own diet to rule out food allergies... as time went on, his symptoms kept getting progressively worse and worse... he was inconsolable at night and putting him to bed was turning into a 5 hour routine of frequent wake-ups where he would go from completely asleep to a blood-curdling scream.... Dr. Yancy hand-waved this as "most babies don't sleep through the night." and were told to try putting him to bed at 10PM... an insane suggestion in my opinion for a 6 month old and doesn't even explain the fact that he was waking up screaming after successfully being put to sleep. He regularly would give us information at appointments that contradicted information he gave us at previous appointments... it was really obvious he didn't pay attention to our actual records and was just going by his own knowledge of what most children his age experience... sort of understandable, but at the same time, very frustrating if your child has any deviation in their health from the norm. We took him to a separate pediatrician and were referred to a pediatric gastroenterologist who evaluated him and found out he had fairly severe reflux... his months of inconsolability were caused by the fact that he had likely been in excruciating pain every night. Immediately put on meds. Immediate improvement. If we had continued to take him to see Dr. Yancy, who knows what kind of damage we'd have been dealing with... I'm absolutely furious.
