Highly recommend Laurie. She is VERY knowledgeable. I called with questions throughout my pregnancy all the time and ALWAYS got a response that was reassuring. I have never had to wait for Laurie (which if I had to I understand. Babies have a mind of their own) Her staff is AMAZING, and when I went into labor she was supposed to be out of town but stayed 17 hours to deliver me!
Growing up I heard of horror stories about deliveries and even some about their doctors, so I was wanting (like we all do) someone who would really care about me and my baby. I found her! Laurie was amazing! She was always kind and understanding. During my labor I had stopped progressing and was struggling. I was trying to have a natural birth with no drugs. Laurie would come and check on me throughout the day and sit with me walking me threw relaxation, which was so helpful! She was so supportive throughout my entire pregnancy and birth! I want to have all my kids with her!!
I am not a fan of Laurie for several reasons. She rushed through every prenatal appointment, which should have been a red flag. During the birth of my son she wasn't educated on managing a posterior labor and was detrimental to my having a natural birth as she pushed pitocin and an epidural. She also broke my water and did a stretch and sweep right after I told her No. She also told me it was inappropriate for me to bring my newborn to my six week postpartum checkup, and told me I was a "naive first time mom." I would not recommend her to anyone.
I just wanted to take a moment to thank Laurie Hansen for my births! What a wonderful experiences! Laurie has delivered 3 of my babies unmedicated and every one of them has been the best experience. Laurie was so patient with me and respectful of my needs and wants. I am a high risk patient due to uterine malformation. The fact that I have had full term vaginal deliveries is AMAZING! I attribute a lot of it to Laurie Hansen and her knowledge and skills during delivery. I always have in my mind what my births should look like and sometimes they were different than planned but they always ended up being exactly as they should be to get my babies here healthy and well. Laurie always discussed options with my husband and I before EVERYTHING! And she always honored those decisions. I will say sometimes decisions had to be directed towards my husband because during labor I was a little focused on breathing and my baby coming. But I trusted my husband and Laurie to always direct my body and my birth in whatever was safest and best for my baby and my body. People need to remember that while Laurie wants you to have the birth that you dreamed of, I feel like her priority is making sure your baby is delivered safely and that your body is cared for. Sometimes we don't understand in the moment why nurses and Providers guide us to do the things they do. But that is because we aren't the specialists. After each of my births I took that time to review how the birth went and I took that time to ask Laurie how come she thought some things happened one way or another. For example, after my first birth I discussed what happened. I was progressing so so so slow. It had been 6 hours un-medicated and I was still only like a 4 with contractions every 2-3 minutes apart. During that whole time I didn't understand why it was taking so long, Laurie had to really work with my cervix which was painful but I had so much trust in her that I knew it was the right thing. Because I am high risk she had to consult with a Physician who suggested using a medication to enhance my contractions and "move things along", she knew that I was tired but she told me what the consulting Physician said and I said no. She of course reviewed the risks and benefits to make sure I was making an educated decision. But my husband and I decided to keep working along without the medication. We then proceeded for another 4 hours like that, slowly making progress. She was so encouraging, patient and knowledgeable. Finally my beautiful baby boy was born. What I didn't know or understand was that because of my malformed uterus I had a huge septum that the baby was tearing through during that 10 hours which is why it took so long and why she had to work so much with my cervix and with the septum to help make that happen. I am convinced that most other Physicians would have delivered me c-section. That was my first baby and because of that initial tough delivery that Laurie Hansen made possible I was able to have my other 2 babies vaginal. I know this is long for you readers out there. I just wanted you to have an example first hand of how much I trust the knowledge and skills of Laurie Hansen. Thank you again Laurie! I am so very grateful for you :)
I did not enjoy my experience with Laurie. She was very nice and helpful during my prenatal appointments, although always in a rush. When I went in to labor, she completely undermined me because she was tired and didn't want to be up in the middle of the night (something that she had complained about another first time mom who gave birth a week before me as well). She sent the nurse in to break my water, when I told her I didn't want that laurie came in. I told her no as well, so she asked to do a cervix check. She then did a stretch and sweep and BROKE MY WATER AFTER I SAID NO. My baby was still posterior, causing back labor, but Laurie assured me that he was in the perfect position. When he was finally born, she kept commenting on how he was posterior and that's why he wouldn't descend. She denied every other request I had. After she broke my water, I stopped progressing but the back labor got worse. She kept saying how tense and stressed I was and how "you aren't coping well" and how I shouldn't make noise. This caused my anxiety to spike. Later, even though I never asked and didn't want it, she kept pushing pitocin until I finally agreed. I still didn't want the epidural until she kept pushing that too. She never took the time to talk to me, rushed through everything. When it came time to push, the epidural had almost completely worn off but she told me "you won't be able to handle this" and had the nurse administer more anesthetic through the epidural. She also didn't let me catch my baby as planned and pinched the cord so it looked like it was done pulsing so we would cut it sooner. During my two week check up, she didn't listen to me and even commented how I was "an over eager first time mom." At my 6 week checkup, she admitted to intentionally breaking my water because she "thought it would speed things up." I would never see her as my provider again.
I love this nurse midwife at her staff!!! I enjoyed going to my appointment, she is very thorough and listens to all of my concerns. I have birthed two children with her help. This last birth I had she helped me to remain calm and collected and able to breathe through all of my contractions… My baby was coming out crooked and she was able to turn my baby so that I can have her vaginally. I had both of my babies natural, but this nurse midwife won't try to get you to go natural if you really want an epidural. She was very open with me concerning my options and was not afraid to tell it to me straight. She and her staff are amazing , and I would recommend her to anybody who would like a personable experience while having your child in a hospital.
I have had 8 children with Laurie as my Dr. I will not go anywhere else. She is very caring, and knowledgeable. She has a way of making you feel like you are her only concern and patient. She is really good to help you through the birthing process if you are going natural or with an epidural. I have gone natural with most of my babies, but she is really good if you get an epidural too. I love going to Laurie and highly recommend her to anyone who needs an OB.
Laurie is a competent, compassionate and understanding midwife. Laurie was the midwife for my fourth delivery. I have had four deliveries and my fourth was the smoothest of all four. After having one epidural and two natural deliveries I was unsure about my expectations for my fourth delivery. Laurie suggested inviting my 9-yr-old daughter to the delivery if the circumstances were right. After debating between a natural versus medicated birth plan I told Laurie that I would like to leave the window open for either option depending on the circumstances. I ended up going a week over my due date and was scheduled for an induction. Because I could plan my delivery time in advance I was able to make arrangements for my mother and my daughter to come to the delivery. An hour after beginning induced I chose to get an epidural knowing that my daughter would be arriving at the hospital and not wanting the birth process to be traumatic at all for her. Laurie was very understanding of my decision and did not put any undue pressure on me to have a natural delivery. Having my daughter at my delivery was very special and will always be memorable. We had prepared my daughter thoroughly beforehand to know what to expect. Laurie walked my daughter through the birth process and kept her appropriately involved. She also allowed my husband to be an active participant in the process allowing him to help hold the babies head and also cut the umbilical cord. I would highly recommend Laurie to anyone who is looking for a midwife that encourages the natural process but also is considerate of mother's wishes depending on circumstances. I would also recommend Laurie because she goes above and beyond to make sure that all members of the family feel welcome and apart of the delivery process.
