Second time visiting Dr. Metelitsa, great doctor.
First time we visited Dr. Metelitsa, he treated a skin condition on my 5 year old son, I have to say he is great with kids.
This time around he removed a mole in minutes with the help of a very attentive nurse. Dr. Metelitsa is rather fast (as some reviewers have mentioned) but very knowledgeable.
My one star rating on staff is due to the lack of politeness of the front desk staff. I would have to agree with other reviewers these ladies are rather disrespectful, I asked a question, they looked at each other and they never answered.
He is very knowledgeable. During my first appointment with him he looked at my skin problem and diagnosed it in seconds. The cream he prescribed worked!! I have had the issue for years and none of the other creams prescribed ever helped, some even made it worse. I am very grateful to him. Yes he is fast, the ladies at reception were not polite and the waiting room is busy but he seen me right away and helped me in minutes. I would recommend him to anyone.
I was quite nervous going to the dermatologist given my family doc had looked at the growth on my shoulder and was very vague on her answers to "What is it?" and "Is it dangerous / malignant?"
I got to my appointment about 3 minutes early, which was perfect for filling out the short form required and the admin parts. I sat down, took out my phone and before I could delete a spam email, I was called in. The nurse was very nice (cute even) and nicely gave details on what to do etc. Dr. Metelista came in and took a 10 second look, moved the growth a bit and said he knew exactly what is was and started explaining how they tend to show up. I had a pyogenic granuloma and it was quite nasty. Dr. Metelista and I started joking around and he is actually quite funny. He told me he would cut it off and that his nurse would come in, do the freezing and that I would be free of this ugly growth in less than a half hour.
The nurse came back in, a couple of freezing shots later and Dr. Metelista came back in. I didn't feel a thing as it was cut off, cauterized and bandaged. As a matter of fact, I was a little surprised when he said he was all done. He spent a few more minutes on post removal protocols (vasaline, bandages etc). A couple of more mutual jokes and I was putting my shirt back on. As we were leaving the room, he gave me the "low probability it grows back" speech and told me to call and set up an appointment and that he would be happy to repeat the procedure if it returns.
Overall, a great experience. This is what all doctors should be like. Personable, efficient, knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful, including follow-up. I have had my share of bad experiences dealing with medical professionals; this wasn't one of them. Two thumbs up!
I brought my daughter to fix her blood vessel on her face. First of all he is great with kids and made her feel comfortable. When it came to treatment he took her to a treatment room and actually allowed me to watch which was reassuring as a parent. He zapped it with a laser and the spot is completely gone within couple weeks. He is a very good doctor.
I was diagnosed in April of 2014 with Skin Cancer. I was referred to Dr. Metelitsa and had an appointment on May 20th. He was fantastic. He quickly removed the two lesions. I was worried about scaring but he did such a great job, there is nothing. I have never waited more than 10 minutes from the time I walk in the door to seeing him. I have been back two more times for further skin cancer lesions and he has been amazing. I trust him and his staff. I would recommend him to anyone. He and his staff are professional and highly competent. I have not worried one time since he became my Doctor.
My son was developing severe acne and nothing was working even prescription creams. I had previously seen Dr. Metelitsa about a cyst that had to be removed and he was on time, painless and removed it the same day. With my son (who can be a typical grumpy teen especially in the morning) he recommended trying Accutane, gave us the potential side effects and monitored him carefully throughout his 6+ month treatment. His acne is GONE and other than needing to use lip balm several times daily, there were no other side effects and he saved my son from a lifetime of scars. I would highly recommend him and if it takes a while to get in to see him, consider that there is a shortage of doctors in Calgary and I for one appreciate that he doesn't dilly dally around, taking longer than necessary with each patient to make the wait even longer. He spent the appropriate amount of time to help us out and was quite pleasant and professional.
This doctor has been disappointing to say the least. My husband has been to him several times for a skin infection that is still ongoing. We need to find someone else who will actually LISTEN to us about this distressing problem. He just pushes the pills that don't work and hasn't even done any tests to confirm what the problem is. According to the reviews I've read he is more interested in patients that are paying for cosmetic procedures than people with actual medical issues.
I have been dealing with armpit sweating since I was a teenager without much success. My family doctor referred me to Dr Metelitsa and he recommended Botox injections. The injections worked amazing to a point that I almost forgot about my sweating issue and I continue to see him every 5 months. His nurses are both very friendly and caring- they even accommodated my schedule when I had to reschedule last minute. I think he is the best dermatologist in Calgary.
