Dr. Pence was by far the best therapist my son ever had. We were in dire straits before we started seeing him, and the connection my son felt with him was instantaneous. Dr. Pence was swift, strong, and very intentional in his therapy sessions, but my son is so much better because of it. Words cannot express how sad we are, and how much we will miss seeing him. Dr. Pence was a true blessing, and there will never be anyone like him.

Our lives changed suddenly in December of 2017, when our happy and easy going 12 year old son started to become paralyzed with fear, due to his contamination OCD. The onset of his OCD was so sudden, and severe, that we even investigated PANS/PANDAS. Things that were once enjoyable – going to the movies, going out for dinner, visiting friends and relatives, taking a vacation, were now next to impossible. His anxiety skyrocketed to the point where it was extremely difficult and painful to get him out of the house and to school. His fear of contamination made him strip off his jackets, gloves, hat and scarf on one of the coldest winter days, while we were waiting for the bus to come. I literally had to stand in front of the bus, throwing his jacket over him as he screamed in panic. It was an absolute nightmare. Fortunately, we came across Dr. Pence while doing frenzied searches for answers, and giving countless prayers for help. I do not think it was coincidence that we ran across this amazing Doctor…I think it was a miracle. Now, after 6 months of weekly ERP sessions, we feel as though we have our son ‘back’. Dr. Pence was the perfect fit for our son….he knows OCD, and knows how to fix it. His fun and easy going manner was perfect for our son, who felt at ease with him. Make no mistake, ERP was not easy….it was extremely difficult for our son to go through some of the exposures that were presented….yet, even during these difficult sessions, Dr. Pence always balanced making advancement, to knowing our son’s limits. He treated him (and by extension, us) with much dignity and kindness. Like many of the reviews state, he sincerely cares about his patients. He drew on his own experiences with OCD to help our son….and tailored the ERP sessions perfectly to our son’s needs. As parents, we never knew how debilitating this dreadful disease was, until we saw the things we saw with our boy. It’s horrible! For Dr. Pence to do what he did in 6 months for our son, is miraculous. We are so grateful to him….I have such a profound respect for him and the amazing work that he does. He gives lives back. What price can you put on that? My son will have to fight OCD for the rest of his life, but fortunately, Dr. Pence has taught him tools that he will be able to use during that battle. Around 5 months into his ERP sessions, my son touched something that a few months earlier, would have been impossible. He did this one night after we arrived home from an ERP session. He was so proud of himself, that he wrote this text to Dr. Pence…..and, I think it speaks volumes coming from his own young mind….so I’m including it in my review: “Hi Dr. Pence….I just wanted to let you know that I just got home and gave MYSELF an exposure (then he described what he did). I just wanted to let you know, that I wouldn’t have dreamed of doing this without you and I just have to thank you so much for saving my life and helping me start living it. You are by far the best doctor I have ever had. I do not know what I would do without you.” As parents, we couldn’t agree more. Thank you so much Dr. Pence!!

Dr. Pence is the best therapist I’ve ever had. He’s helped me tremendously overcome my OCD. I cannot thank him enough. Our last session was an emotional one because of our strong bond. I hope he can help everyone the way he’s helped me. My life is better after being treated by Dr. Pence.

Dr. Pence is the best psychologist I've ever had the pleasure to work with. He is incredibly genuine, kind and compassionate. Moreover, he is extremely competent. Prior to working with him I had been to multiple residential programs, had numerous hospitalizations and received very poor outpatient care. For the first time in a decade, I am optimistic about my future and my ability to manage my OCD. I don't know where my life would be without his guidance. I don't even want to think about it. I was having a lot of suicidal thoughts until he taught me evidence-based strategies for managing my OCD. My depression lifted as he helped me overcome my OCD and now I want to live, and I believe I can have a productive life.

Dr. Pence has treated our teenage son for the last six months he has been tremendous help for our son. Without Dr. Pence's treatment and knowledge of OCD I shutter to think what would have happened to our son in less experienced care. He is an expert in treating OCD and creates a plan specific to help his patients. Our son was having difficultly functioning and now he has is OCD under control he knows what it is and how he can control it himself, getting better every day. We feel very fortunate to have our son under Dr. Pence's care and expertise. I highly recommend Dr. Pence to parents looking for treatment for their child or anyone directly suffering from OCD.
