Ratings for Dr. Jeremiah Labree

Recently saw Dr. Labree in Damariscotta recently. Very nice office, receptionist nice but it was odd to listen to her discuss practice management issues in front of a patient in the waiting room, and also a violation of HIPAA to be making calls to patients in full hearing range of other patients. If you ask for soneoneby name, it doesn't matter if it's just to tell them their contacts or glasses are ready. But this is the least of our issue. NEVER have we experienced such upsellng. Dr. Labree was nice enough, appeared professional although while eyes were dialating he suggested using the time to "check out some of the frames". I believe $150 for his exam s fair, but it is a little forward to suggest a patient WANTS to buy glasses at their office. First off, the selection is not that great, very limited options. Now the kicker, this guy who was sitting in front of a computer by the glass display is the guy who fits glasses. The first thing he did was start pushing the outselling. Close to $200 frames ok, no issue. One would expect the final cost of these glasses would be another $250, tops. So that would be $450 for a pair of glasses. Not in this case, they became $600 glasses. HUGE turn off for two reasons. First this guy pulls out a tablet/iPad and immediately begins with how different lenses like mit or provide a greater range of vision. The way he went about the obvious upselling combined with his lacking personality made us uncomfortable, although we said nothing until we left the office. Also, we asked for a copy (complete) of the Rx and this guy immediately began questioning the reason why. By law, as long as the Optometrist is paid his fee, a complete copy of the Rx must be given to the patient. The patient doesn't need to offer an explanation, in fact the patient is under no obligation to buy glasses at the Optometrist's office where they are examined. We can't wait to get through with getting the glasses, RX and never going back. We were both going to make an appointment, instead one of us is going elsewhere. Of note, this office never has Saturday or evening appointments. (Are they only interested in seeing older folks?) Maybe our return visit to pick up the glasses will be completely different, but if Mr. No Personality is there it will be a bummer. Another thing, this guy does beautiful woodworking (bowls) but having one on display on the counter where a patient is checking in is strange. Although nice and a conversation piece, it's not professional to peddle handicrafts (no matter how nice) in any Medical related facility. Dunno, but I/we say trust your gut.
