Ratings for Dr. William H. Pfeffer
Second opinion never hurts.I had bad case of multiple uterine fibroids.Dr.P.recommended abdominal myomectomy;since there are many alternative ways (embolization, hysteroscopy, etc)I did get second opinion from highly respected specialist at UPenn; he had pros and cons to say regarding Dr.Pfeffer's approach.I told Dr.P.that I got second opinion, and I would be thankful if he talks to that doctor about my situation.Dr.P was extremely open to the talk, and two doctors discussed it the same day and seemed to agree in the end.The attitude was extremely professional-Dr.P. even mentioned that it would be ok with him should I choose to go with another specialist. His reasoning seemed strong to me and I ended up having myomectomy done by Dr.Pfeffer.1year later I'm fully recovered, and 6 month pregnant with my 1st baby!there're no visible scars on the uterus(I had 18 fibroids removed, largest the size of an egg).Needless to say-I'm very happy about the surgery, and thankful to Dr.Pfeffer forever.
I would strongly recommend if needing surgery, you get a second opinion before having Dr Pfeffer operate on you. A year ago, I had surgery w/ Dr P to remove a uterine septum. Suppose to be "quick and easy". Was told after surgery I have an abnormally small uterus. Spent 4 months on clmomid- miscarried. Lining very thin. Dr. P started pushing IVF. My husband hated his "humor" and we both felt uncomfortable moving to IVF w/o more info. Went to RMA for a consult and found out the surgery Dr P performed on me left my uterus 80% scarred!!!! In my current condition I can never carry a pregnacy, so IVF would never have worked. And my uterus is normal size, just filled w/ scar tissue. These are things plainly seen on an ultrasound- so we are at a lost as to what Dr P saw for the year he treated us. His surgery was out of date- I should have been operated on w/ microscissors, had a stent placed and given estrogen. Get a second opinion! We lost a year of TTC and now have face mult. surgeries.
I would highly reccomend Dr. Pfeffer. He takes time with each patient, is kind and compassionate. When I found out I had miscarried a baby, he came in and hugged me. His words helped me get through the loss... I started to question myself and he very clearly made me understand that there was nothing I could do to have stopped the miscarriage. I am back now trying to conceive again through his practice. They are all very helpful.
The nurses and ultrasound techs are wonderful and the only reasons I kept coming back for IUI's. The weekend front desk staff is just OK. Dr. Pfeffer thinks his humor is dry, but it's just off-putting and rude. If you're between 40-42+ get ready to be inundated with weekly smug comments about old eggs, menopause, and donor eggs. So be sure to stick up for yourself if he makes you feel bad or if he offends you. He also missed one mature follicle in my U/S he performed. Dr. Glassner & Orris are nicer, but too aggressive and I always feel rushed with two minutes consults. The two times I agreed to MLF's aggressive RX protocol, they messed up my cycles and I paid $1000 for nothing & I was labeled a"poor responder". If you're in your 20s or 30s, then you'll probably have better luck here than I did. If you're any older or on a budget, you should think twice about MLF because you'll eventually see him. I'm finding an IVF clinic that's more compassionate, less aggressive and more affordable!
I thought Dr. Pfeffer was great throughout my cycle - it being my 1st cycle & not knowing a thing about IVF. I ended up w/ a BFN. When we met w/ Dr Pfeffer 2 wks after my BFN he told us if we were paying out of pocket he wouldn't recommend us doing another cycle. Once I told him it was through insur he changed his mind & told us to try again. We both left w/ a bad vibe. I called the dr a few days later to ask why he said not to do it then changed his mind & the 1st thing he said was that he wasn't doing it for the $ he didn't want to see us put ourselves in debt. That is a bunch of BS, if it's something that we desire then we'll make that decision. So we went for a 2nd opinion - thank God. Dr Pfeffer never ran any test on me once he saw my husbands test results. Well my new dr did a HSG & Hysteroscopy & found scar tissue & said that could be why the embryos didn't stick. If we would've stayed w/ Pfeffer we would've got another BFN. Dr Pfeffer's an ignorant pompous jerk.
Dr. Pfeffer is a pompous jerk with no bedside manner. He didn't prepare for my visits and when I had IVF, was about to transfer an incorrect number of embryos before my husband and I stopped him. He blamed my IVF failure on "aging ovaries" until he did a 3 day FSH that showed I had normal ovarian reserve. When I had pelvic pain, he told me I couldn't have endometriosis because I had had a successful pregnancy. Guess what, my next RE found endo all over the place. This doc wasted a year of my time and used up all of my insurance for infertility. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Pfeffer wasted 6 months of my life, before suggesting that the only way we would be able to get pregnant would be to use a gestational surrogate. I found Dr. Pfeffer to be very pessimistic and entirely focused on IVF and his "numbers." He didn't even want to risk doing IVF with me because he was convinced I would fail and thus, bring his percentage down. I was referred to him by a friend, but would not recommend him to others. The staff in the office were not friendly, and spent time on Facebook instead of talking to patients.
After 4 devastating miscarriages over a 4 year period and three RE's later, Dr. Pfeffer discovered what was wrong with me in the first 30 minutes of my initial appointment. That's something that the other 3 could not do. He's brilliant, up to date on the latest treatments, and witty. I personally found his humor quite charming, especially at a time when I needed to have some good laughs. Thanks to Dr. Pfeffer, I have a happy 2 yr old son running through my house. I owe so much to Dr. Pfeffer. For those who found him pretentious and only willing to help the rich, that's not true. My husband and I were graduate students at U Penn and had very little money. He accepted our student insurance and treated me like I was one of his daughters. Great man!!!
I despise this man. My Gynecologist warned me about Dr. Pfeffer, but insisted he was a very good fertility doctor. He was very gruff and sarcastically commented that my desire to still have a child at 40 was like wishing for world peace. Thankfully, I have been seeing Dr. Glassner since and pray to God that I never, ever have to lay eyes on Dr. Pfeffer again.
Dr. Pfeffer is awful. His bedside manner is terrible. I was newly pregnant and he told me I was surely going to miscarry. He said "the only way this is a viable pregnancy is if the nurse wrote your blood levels down wrong." Well, he was wrong. I am very pregnant. He is very unprofessional. The other two doctors in this practice are amazing.
