My knee had been bothering me for a year with on again - off again pain. I'll summarize first and give the full story below. Summary - The doctor either did not want to listen to what I had to say about my pain or what I described was outside of his sphere of knowledge - which would amaze me for someone 30+ years in the profession. If my job was to know all about joints - I would make sure I know about how tight muscles and how they could affect a joint. My feeling was that he wanted to just pass me off and not get to the root of the problem. Again, I don't know if it was because he just did not have that knowledge or it wasn't worth his time. Regardless, he did not seem to really care about making my knee better. Saw the doctor and he flexed my knee in all directions and took an X-ray and told me my knee looks great! I said again that my pain comes and goes and I thought it was from some sort of imbalance in the muscles around my knee. He did not even acknowledge what I said and instead suggested I strengthen the muscles around my knee and if I was still in pain in a few months, I should return. When I returned home, I immediately made an appointment for a physical therapist. The therapist finally found out the problem - my rectus femoris and illiopsoas were too tight and they needed to be stretched. After several weeks of stretching, the pain is gone and I feel much better. If this doctor had recommended me to see a physical therapist I would feel better about this, but he did not. That leads me to believe that he does not know his job.
I wish I knew about this site years back. Immediately after knee replacement surgery I felt severe burning in my left foot (which I never had before). It turns out out he mistakenly hit the perineal nerve & I now have bad nerve damage. This has since been confirmed by 3 other doctors including Hospital for Special Surgery in NY. Dr. Murphy had no personality to start and his bedside manner after surgery became worse. He denied all wrong doing & ignored me while in hospital. He blew by me in PT @ hospital & I had to call across room trust to ask a question. He told me my pain was from a sciatic back injury which I never had. I know woman whom he did a hip repl. right after me & she still is in a brace, on Lyrica & in Pain Mgt Therapy! He became angry & dismissed report of renowned PT. He would not allow his PT group to work on foot nerve damage for fear of admitting wrongdoing. I was on crutches for 8 mos. Still have difficulty walking. The absolute worst!
Saw him last week and was diognosed w scitica with Rx for MRI. TODAY READ MRI RESULTS (5 minute vist after waiting almost 60 minutes.) 'Nothing serious' just degenerative but refer to pain management for epidural. Doc knew I needed to fly two days hence, knew I could not get epidural in next few days from their pain management doc, knew I was in pain and did not offer to give the shot.
A competent surgeon but has the bedside manner of a plant. Very abrupt, definitely has the God complex, not very helpful after the surgery, if you have questions, he's not into answering them, checks the incision, tells you what he wants you to do and does not listen at all. Would never use this Doctor again and can't recommend. By the way the office complex in Middletown is falling apart outside, so if you have difficulty walking be very careful.
I had 2 surgeries with this man. The first one was back about almost 20 years ago when I had a bad car accident; he assured my family that he would take care of me and I would be alright; my family never forgot that. The second was, knowing how excellent he was had no problem deciding who would be the surgeon. A gentleman. One of the best.
