Ratings for Dr. Steven Streit
I spent over $3500 with doctor visits, hospital stay and tests with other doctors who knew nothing about Lyme. Every time they said, "Something is obviously wrong but we don't know what it is." Then they would refer me to someone else, i.e. rheumatology, hematology, etc. And the same thing, time after time, "Something's wrong but I don't have any answers for you." And I told every doctor, "I think I have Lyme disease." But none of them agreed because the faulty ELISA test was negative. I was given Dr. Streit's name by a friend. I drove 2 1/2 hours to see him. Yes, he is straight down to business. But I don't care to spend hours in the doctor office. Diagnose me and treat me. He's not a shrink! First time in he asked me all about my symptoms, he examined me, viewed all of the test results I had done previously and he did the iGenex Western Blot. What do you know! Positive for Lyme. He has been treating me for about two months and already I am making great progress. I feel like I have my life back. I don't know what lies ahead, but I do know that this man got it right and I feel human again. He's the best for sure.
This Dr and his staff are wonderful. He is an integrative Dr. incorporating herbs and supplements to treat the whole body/person. Yes he is quiet, bring your list of questions and he answers them. He never seems to be stumped when I come to a cross roads of treatment. He always knows something else to try. I travel 6 hours round trip to see this man and I am thankful I can. People from up and down the East coast come to him.
When I found Dr. Streit lyme had nearly taken my life . He diagnosed, me treated me and oh yeah did not charge me a cent until my disabilty claim was settled about 2 years later....yes hes quiet but he literally saved my life so i'm not sure how to rate that
Please don't waste your time. Don't get me wrong, Dr. Streit is better than any standard MD when it comes to getting your Lyme Disease acknowledged, but he seems to have a one-path approach to treatment. After almost a year of being on the same antibiotic protocol, my wife's recovery had begun, but she was still far from feeling better or generally well. Despite her plateau on his protocol, which still included muscle spasms and unbearable chronic pain (not exactly symptoms that are easy to ignore), he never tried to change or adjust her treatment. He always rushed us out (the average appointment was 15 minutes long on a good day), chalked up her slow recovery to "some people just take longer to heal" and never thoroughly examined for tick-borne co-infections. After almost a year and a half of traveling to his office every single month, my wife changed LLMDs and has since received SIGNIFICANT help. Her new LLMD (located in the same general area) is VERY thorough, empathetic, and discovered that she wasn't recovering because her primary symptoms were a result of 3 co-infections that were not being treated. Wish we had switched doctors sooner!
He's truly a genius. He knows what hes talking about a lot more than many doctors ive seen, and he knows about more than just lyme. The only thing is that he's a very quiet man, so you need to initiate the conversation and take charge. If you tell him your symptoms and complaints and ask questions, he's more than happy to give good, informational answers, but if you sit back and stay quiet, he'll move you along like any other doctor. A very good lyme doctor, his treatment has really improved my lifestyle.
Just an important FYI - this Dr. uses an obscure lab for bloodwork called Mercy Diagnostics. My insurance covered none of an over $5,000 bill. Of course the Dr. does not inform the patient in advance which is a gross oversight on his part. Given his lack of communication, not only with insurance issues but with everything involving this complex illness, I would not recommend him. I had to move on and am so glad I did. Very difficult to work with.
Going through the motions and a quick run through never has time to speak with patient. Doctor acts like a creep show with no personality, pushes the patients out so he can push up his weird assistant in the anal...
If you like a doctor who makes small talk, or holds your hand as you recite your long list of puzzling symptoms, then don't make an appointment with Dr. Streit. If, on the other hand, you want to really be heard and taken seriously - if you really want to get well, then he's your man.
I cannot tell you how thankful I am for Dr. Streit. I travel 2 hour 1 way for him to treat my daughter. He has saved her life. Short story...she has Lyme. Was bitten in July 2008. Had the rash. Treated 3 weeks with antibiotics. Told she was cured. Fast forward March 2014 starts having something that looked like a seizure. Pedatrician tells me puberty......anxiety.....have her breathe into a bag when this happens! Very sick child on our hands. Left leg starts twitching every 7 to 8 seconds 24/7. Ct scans,EEG, MRI ordered, Neurologist...etc. Sees Dr. Streit. Takes her symptoms down, checks her over. Looks in her sweet face and says" This is Lyme. This ends here. ". Woot! She is well today. Very, very, intelligent, caring QUIET man. Staff is wonderful! He relieved my daughters and our physical pain and mental anguish!
