Ratings for Dr. Douglas J. Wigton
This is an extremely kind and wonderful man. But he is not an very good doctor. I had to be the one to remember to get needed lab tests for follow-up on my diabetes. I had to be the one to fill him in on necessary details of my condition, because he would not remember to ask the appropriate questions. His alternative treatments simply never worked at all, though the more traditional medicine approaches were adequate. One of the treatments I submitted to (prolo therapy) may actually have cause harm, and certainly did not improve my condition. I really like this man, and leaving his practice felt like a disservice to him, because he is so very kind and tender-hearted. He is also very difficult to get in for acute situations, and I often had to wait too long, or be cared for by a nurse practitioner instead of my physician. The staff members were often irritating. As an RN, I certainly cannot recommend him as a physician. He would be a wonderful friend!
Been a patient of his for ages. He is super caring, listens to what you need and allows you to make choices. Offers other therapies. However, he is now over booked, seriously over booked, taking on too many patients to handle them efficiently. Staff is stressed, acts over worked and takes it out on patients at times. Difficulty working with them getting medication via mailed medication, calling in referrals, again many of them act exasperated leaving the patient feeling the same or blamed. NEED TO RELEASE SOME OF THEIR CASELOAD to return to the comfortable, loving practice they were known for. They were once known also as the only Christian Doctor taking you even if you couldn't pay. Now you get bugged like a moth to a flame to the point of embarrassment in front of the patient waiting room, trying to explain. Difficulty understanding insurance payments and inter-office communication between staff trying to give you correct information on what is due.
At first I went to him for a second opinion - he was very helpful, and did not leave anything to chance. I felt that he was a very knowledgable physician, so I have stayed as a patient. The only thing that I have a concern about is, the way the office staff handles the medications -- I had a difficult time at one time receiving my medications from my mail order pharmacy, and when I called to have a short term prescription called in to a local pharmacy.... they just ignored me and I ran out of my prescription for a few days.
