Ratings for Dr. Alan N. BERMAN
After several consultations for Bunion surgery, I found Dr. Berman at Somers Orthopaedics. At my consultation, he explained the bunion surgery called Lapiplasty. I am a very active person, and on my feet most of the day and was concerned about the down-time of bunion surgery as well as the pain. I underwent the procedure in November 2017 without complications of any type. My recovery was minimally painful (at its worst a 2 out of 10 on pain scale). I used a knee walker instead of crutches for the first couple weeks. Once I was put into the boot. I was able to walk in about 2-3 weeks. Within 3 mos I was back to cycling, elliptical and yoga! Within 5 mos I was wearing nice heels and running 5K! I can’t reccommend Dr. Berman highly enough. His professional knowledge, and expertise have made my procedure and recovery better then I could have imagined! I have several friends who are 1-2 years out of traditional bunion surgery, and still not comfortable. This procedure seemed to work great for me, and I would recommend seeing Dr. Berman before you decide to do any type of bunion surgery!! 5++ stars!!
Bedside manners are non-existent. Asks patient to tell him/her what is wrong and self-prescribe treatment plan. Instead of examining the patient and looking at his/her medical records, he just rambles off a bunch of treatments for a variety of conditions instead of giving the patient options and providing a treatment plan. Absolutely terrible. Avoid at all costs.
Because of knee operation had to see Dr. Berman to get toe nails clipped. Dr. Berman was immediately helpful offering to take off shoes and socks. He gently examined feet and explained I had spider veins which could lead to varicose veins. He suggested wearing low compression socks when traveling by plane, hiking and just a couple of hours a week. He then asked if I had any foot issues. I explained on occasion, with different shoes and socks, it felt if the socks were bunched up. Dr. Berman immediately recognized this as a metatarsal problem and offered to provide some metatarsal pads or to recommend a shoe insert with metatarsal support. All in all, Dr. Berman was highly professional. He asked questions and offered solutions. Marty M
