I have been a patient or Dr. Simons for approximately 10 years. My life I have been a patient of Dr Simons for approximately 10 years. Of all the psychiatrists I have seen throughout my life, I would have to say that Dr. Simons, is by far the most informed, compassionate, caring, knowledgeable, empathetic, a innovative, and giving doctor that I have ever met. When I have been in distress, he has always returned my call, before the end of his day. I have very treatment resistant depression and a very atypical type of bipolar disorder.new sentence most physicians that I have seen have had no idea how to treat my depression. Dr. Simons has worked diligently over the years to find new and innovative ways to treat my depression, including the implantation of a Vagal Nerve Stimulator. upon doctor Simons' professional recommendation, I was one of the very first patients, living in this area, to receive the vagal nerve stimulator for the treatment of depression.for several years the Vagal Nerve Stimulator did wonders in relieving my depressive symptoms and continues to help my depression today, but has to be used in conjunction with the appropriate medications, in order to control the severity of my symptoms. Many psychiatrists have given up on me in the past, or refused to treat me after a period of time, due to the severity of my illness. I have even had psychiatrists tell my family members that my condition was beyond treatment and suggest that I be locked up in a mental institution for the remainder of my life. Dr. Simon" s has never given up on my condition, even during my most severe symptoms, including attempting suicide. One person, during their review, suggested Dr. Simon's is too old, outdated, and recommended that patients should seek out another psychiatrist. I totally disagree. I do not know exactly how old Dr Simons is, but I DO KNOW, beyond a doubt, that his treatments are cutting edge in the diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders. He was one of the first psychiatrists to recommend the use of the vagal nerve stimulator and now he is the only psychiatrist, that I am aware of in this area, that is qualified to use magnetic therapy for the treatment of chronic, resistant depression. Dr. Simon is easy to talk to and listens very carefully to his patients and has always shown interest in my evaluation of my illness and he is open to any suggestions or ideas that I may have, regarding what I feel might be useful in the treatment of my chronic depression. No matter how bad things may become, I am assured that my psychiatrist, Dr. Simons will make time to help me deal with any crisis, that I may encounter. You will never dial his phone number after hours and receive a pre-recorded message stating " hang up and dial 911". Instead, you will reach his answering service reassuring you that Dr. Simon's ,or a member of his staff, will return your call shortly and that is exactly what happens. He is one of the few remaining physicians, in any specialty area today, that has not switched from having a answering service that cares, to the pre-recorded message to "just hang up and dial 911". Who wants to call 911 and talk to a stranger, during an emotional crisis---certainly not me! I hope and pray Dr. Simons does not retire anytime in the near future. It would be a great loss to the community and all his patients who treasure him so dearly and are fortunate enough to be under his care. I am 55,years old and have probably had 25-30 psychiatrists throughout my lifetime. Dr. Simon's is number one, without question. This psychiatrist is a man of true integrity, dignity, and compassion, who so willingly shares his bountiful knowledge and research regarding the treatment of mood disorders we with those of us who seek and need his care. May God richly bless this gifted doctor, who truly does treat the entire person, body, soul, mind, and spirit. with the appropriate medications in order to be effective and knowledgeable of all

READ THIS,I've been Simons' patient for several yrs. Initially he was professional & compassionate, but in the last 4 years my appts (office w/stacks of private patient records strewn across the floor) are like meeting w/a drug dealer. He's unprepared, he has to look up the drugs he has written, or even asks me to remind him. In 6 yrs he hasn't committed to a diagnosis, just makes excuses & orders new meds. Rarely asks me questions. I was a guinea pig as he wanted to prescribe a new drug nearly every appt, NEVER mentioning side effects or interactions. I leave w/a stack of rxs & no progress. I do research and he gets offended. Recently he prescribed yet another drug, I had many Qs. After a few Qs he actually told me he had answered enough Qs for now. No exaggeration-He refused to answer more Qs about drugs he prescribed. Simons is a confused old man practicing 1970 psych. Orders meds irresponsibly. 4 locations in 3 yrs. I strongly suggest you seek a younger doc with current training

Dr Simons is board-certified in infectious diseases, internal medicine, and psychopharmacology. He is simply brilliant and treats the whole person's health. He truly understands how pharmacologicals work in the body, has a "House"-like Sixth sense about your needs. He has saved my life several times (I have bipolar 1). He recently diagnosed a metabolic genetic disorder affecting my nervous system. He is thorough, charming, relaxed, and generous. He is an avid advocate for his patients, and has straightened out some glitches with my Part D company. He is mindful of drug costs and has several ways to help patients save a lot of money. He has helped me through PTSD due to multiple deaths in my family. He demands that patients know what they are taking, why, drug interactions, dosages, and that we know MORE about our medications than an ER doc. He works with you as a team member. I have seen him for 6 years and have never felt better, despite some lulus life has thrown at me
