Ratings for Dr. Michael W. Lowhorn
Saw Dr. L. in 2012 for arch pain in both feet and pain on the dorsum of one foot. He successfully located a stress fracture causing the dorsal pain and diagnosed both feet as having plantar fasciitis. The visit included x-rays and custom orthotics. His nurses/assistants were very aloof and distant. One came in the room with Dr. L. only to ask if he wanted an injection prepared, but made no effort to greet or speak me except for the questionnaire part of the visit. He made it clear that the orthotics were all I needed and that I could return to running when I had at least 2 weeks pain-free. The only other option he offered was a cortisone injection into the arch of my foot if my pain persisted. I asked about PT, but he said that it wouldn't help. I achieved 2-weeks pain free after 14 months of consistent use of the custom orthotics. I am now (2014) looking for another podiatrist because the pain in my arches has been intermittent and increasing again. I never did return to running (my running was actually a fast walk anyway). I wear stiff, lace-up athletic shoes, with the custom orthotics every day and replace the shoes every 3-6 months. Not going back to Dr. Lowhorn because he and his staff really made me feel like any lack of improvement was not going to be his responsibility and the only other option would be injecting the sole of my foot with cortisone. He is, however, doing a great job with a friend of mine who has diabetic ulcers. Middle-aged women with chronic foot pain are just not his thing. I would like to thank the other raters. My experience was similar.
I have been dealing with a diabetic ulcer on the bottom of my left heel for 5 years. I have had several surgeries including 2 skin grafts. Nothing has worked. I have also had to deal with massive amount of infections in the wound. One was so serious that I had to be hospitalized for a month, totally bedfast, and received massive doses of IV antibiotics. I was referred to Dr. Lowhorn and began seeing him in November 2013 as I was on the verge of loosing my foot. I am ecstatic to say that my wound is completely healed and infection free for the first time in 5 years. I have never dealt with a doctor who has shown such compassion and excellent care. He never gave up on finding a way to help me heal. I truly believe that had I not started seeing him my left foot would have been amputated. If you are looking for a quality DPM, go and see him. He's the best!
Dr. Lowhorn is knowledgeable, thorough and very patient oriented. He tells you what you need to know and why and what the consequences could be if ignored. I was referred to Dr. Lowhorn from my general D.O. when I had an infection on my toe. Have seen him over time and am super pleased I am his patient and in good care.
I saw Dr. L twice for foot pain:March ‘12 and mid-Dec ‘12 . I am 56 y/o slender woman who is healthy. At the first appt. Dr.L took an oral history of my foot pain (dorsum surface) and x-rays. He did not touch/ examine my feet. Dx:my feet were fine and to “wear more supportive shoes”. I usually wear New Balance which he said he does not like. I went to Seliga’s: Birks, PJ shoes, and custom orthotics (because my feet really hurt). My feet got worse: pain in my calves. I had to plan my day around my feet. In Dec. ’12 I made a 2nd appt to get a referral for P.T. When Dr.L saw me, he became verbally enraged. He refused to write a PT referral unless I “rested my feet for a month” and then write him a letter. In mid Jan.’13 I started PT at St. Lukes’s. Dx:bilateral muscle imbalance/weakness of the calves, ankles and dorsum+ plantar fascities on the left . Three weeks of PT= my pain is reduced by 85% .I will fully recover.I found out today that a friend had a similar experience with Dr. L
I had to see the doctor on a very urgent basis as it seemed like some serious issue was beginning to take shape on my toe. His staff was pretty amazing in accomodating my request and Mr.lowhorn was very friendly and attentive, explained to me what was going on and performed the procedure right away without any delay, thank god for it, I could see once the nail was cut my supicion was right, I saw that the infection was just beginning to start. I am very pleased with the experience and highly recommend this doctor.
