Jane Brotanek, MD, MPH, FAAP, joined Ridgefield Pediatric Associates in 2011. Dr. Brotanek is an experienced pediatrician deeply committed to the care of children and their families.After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree withhonors in History from Yale University in 1994, she obtained her MD from the New York School of Medicine in 1998. Following her residency, she completed a three-year fellowship in General Academic Pediatrics at the University of Rochester Medical Center and graduated with a Master inPublic Health (M.P.H.) degree. Her areas of research interest encompass asthma, infant feeding practices, iron deficiency in early childhood, as well as cultural and language barriers to care among Latino children.In September 2004, Dr. Brotanek joined the Medical College of Wisconsin as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and worked to improve access to quality healthcare for underserved children. As a member of the Center for the Advancement of Underserved Children, she developed a program to help children and their parents understand asthma and its treatment. The results were published in the November 2007 issue of Ethnicity and Disease. After presenting her findings, she was asked to serve as a consultant for a project sponsored by Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) inNew Jersey. In 2006, Dr. Brotanek became one of 15 junior faculty nationwide selected to receive a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Physician Faculty Scholars Program (RWJ PFSP) award. As a RWJPhysician Faculty Scholar, she received national and international recognition for her work on iron deficiency and early childhood nutrition. In 2007, she was invited to join the Division of General Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where she went on to publish 11 scholarly articles. Most recently, her focus has shifted to being a primary care pediatrician dedicated to clinical work and advocating for children’s health and well-being.She is fluent in seven languages including Spanish, French,Czech, German and Italian, with reading and writing skills in Latin and Sanskrit. She loves to travel (Italy, France, Mexico, India, and all over the world) and enjoys writing poetry, listening to music, and playing the piano.Dr. Brotanek works Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday in addition to assisting with our weekend coverage.
