Dr. Katzenstein completed his undergraduate training at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn., in 1976. He worked and participated in a master’s program at the University of Minnesota, then attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine, graduating in 1983. He had internal medicine training Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, 1983-1986. He worked for the Hopkins Health Plan for one year as an internist, then moved to Cleveland for Rheumatology fellowship training at Case Western University, where he completed the training in 1989. He then moved to Houston, where he was a full-time faculty member at the University of Texas from 1989 to 1995. During his tenure at UT, he was involved in teaching, patient care and basic science research. He subsequently moved into private practice, first in Houston and since 1997 in Kansas City. Dr. Katzenstein is board-certified in rheumatology and in internal medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Rheumatology. Dr. Katzenstein was born and raised in Baltimore, still has family there and misses Chesapeake Bay and Gulf blue crabs. He spends his spare team with his three children and with friends; interests and hobbies include swimming (for fitness), reading, and community service.
