Ratings for Dr. J. Marshall Dent
I have also been going to Dr. John Marshal Dent in Florence, SC .....for years and things have changed ......he talks way to fast, he doesn't listen, he uses a tape recorder, but no one ever follows up on your needs, said he was gonna send me for a MRI, to this day no one ever followed up on it.....it took me 3 months to get a procedure done that Dr. Dent through Exact Sciences, said was paid 100% because it was a preventive procedure. Come to find out no one even called my insurance company to see if I was covered, come to find out they send it out to a company that is out of network, leaving me with a huge bill that was originally supposed to be covered 100% per Dr. Dent. He doesn't work in the insurance department he should not be telling his patients lies......and yes by the time you leave his office you are confused and broke your copay of $20.00 turns in to at least $100.00 if not more. Most of the time his products don't work. .......read other comments before you make your decision and then call someone else.....he has changed staff many times always seeing new faces that don't stay long......his filing systems sucks, leaves your file out for all to see........I would not recommend this doctor to any one........he will not take responsibility for anything done by him or his staff........worst doctor office I have ever dealt with..........😡👿👺👹
Dr. Dent has been my ONLY everything doctor since 2000 when I found out I was pregnant with my son so I can't really compare him with anyone else. I'm now sadly in the process of finding a new PCP and OB/GYN after defending him from everyone I know all these years bc of obvious GREED!! When I started seeing him he accepted Medicaid as my second insurance and has since delivered both of my kids and I've gone to him of course for my annuals and a few things in between and things have been great other than of course having to wait! I don't know if he's changed or what but when you have no insurance you start to notice the money he requires for EVERYTHING and yet I've continued to be loyal and pay cash for my MONTHLY meds to be filled and the expensive $100 visit to spend all of 3 minutes quarterly talking with him and not to mention the 2 hour waiting time it takes every month to pick up the refill!! Soooo now after all these loyal years and money I've now got to get a new doc updated on my medical history!! I'm not saying he's wrong bc I'm not familiar with their laws, but bc I haven't had an annual since Dec. 2014 he's no longer going to prescribe my meds!!! I had just learned of an anti-depressant that actually helped me and along with my Adderall for concentration I would have continued defending him but bc of an annual, my opinion being just for money bc down there has nothing to do with my head, I've now got to find someone new and hope like heck I don't have to jump through a bunch of hoops in order to get my meds. I've always heard how people with no insurance gets the cold shoulder and always having insurance I had empathy but couldn't understand UNTIL NOW!!! I've even always praised the staff but now I can't say that I wouldn't agree with whomever said something!!
Went to Dr.Dent for an annual pap and talked to him about some menopausal issues. I was there 3 1/2 hrs He had a new nurse helping with the pap and she did not know anything. He was rough with the exam. We talked and he started taking a bottle of pills out his drawer for me and put me on his own hormones he has made. I had to pay $130 out of pocket . I was not told how to use these. I blew up in 4 days bloating and abdominal pain from the medications. Had to stop. I never went back. Lab results came back and I did not get a call on it. Tried to call nurse several times but no return calls. Got an outrageous bill from HIS lab he uses . I think he must get a kickback from the LAB he only uses. Singulex Inc. They are not in my insurance network but HE is! Guess you best not get any labs done there because it will come out your pocke! Beware of being jipped and scammed!
My experience in Dr Dent's office in Sumter was 5 star plus. I lost and kept off 40-50 lbs....I wish I still lived in SC so I could get the friendly and professional support I had there. ( I've prob gained about 10-15 of those lost lbs back). The only negatives were $ which is personal and the feeling that Dr Dent is so busy he appears to fly in and out of your check ups ....yet.....I found from experience that if I truly had a problem he'd take the time to listen....HIS PROGRAM WORKED for me. I'd go back to him and his office staff tomorrow if I still lived there.
Well to begin with the office is a circus of errors. There is an obvious turnover of new staff very frequently, and you will get a different answer from every person you ask the same question of. After my third appointment, an office staff said I needed to clear up my balance after my third visit. That seemed strange since every time I had gone I had paid cash for everything. This turned out to be a mistake they made. Another time I went to take some type of glucose test from blood drawn. After I paid the $16 extra fee to get it done and had sitten down to wait, the nurse called me to the window again to tell me that she needed $5 extra dollars because the price was really $21 instead of $16. I talk to several different professional women who go to Dr Dent, and amazingly the hormone shots which seemed to be working well for us all of a sudden were no longer effective, all about the same time. We joked about whether koolaid was put into the solution so we would need additional services rendered at additional fees. Perhaps because we weren't generating enough revenue by picking and choosing what services we went to Dr. Dent for. His weight loss program is mediocre at best, which several other doctors use for weight loss. However Dr. Dent was never open to prescribed phentermine capsules for us, saying they were too expensive. It didn't seem to be about what would be more effective for the patient, but perhaps the arrangement he had financially with the pharmacist down the street?? Incidentally the phentermine capsules are quite cost effective. Regarding lab tests, I have fairly recently been to two different general practitioners who, after lab tests are done, modify your prescription medicine immediately or prescribe something new. Your medical condition and issues are dealt with in a timely manner. Not so for Dr. Dent. One nurse tells you he will call you with the results, while another says you have to make an appointment to find them out. When you get an appointment with him two months later, your medical issues have changed. They have a poor track record of returning your phone calls when they say,if they even call you back at all. A lot of the staff are new and hardly even know the procedures. His lab recently sent me a HUGE for tests I had not agreed to, and which no doubt he realizes insurance will not pay for. What kind of kickback does he get for that? He told a coworker of mine those particular tests were only effective during certain times of the cycle. He failed to acknowledge that fact when he ordered them sporadically for me.
Best doctor in Florence hands down! He is very through and addressed all my concerns and spent a lot of time with me. Dr. Dent is into prevention of disease which is rare to find today. He helped me lose 50 pounds by addressing many issues that were making it difficult for me to lose any weight. I feel great and he truly cares about his patients. I would recommend to any one looking for the complete doctor!
I was referred to Dr. Dent by a friend in Greenville, SC. He is very knowledgable about hormones and balance of hormones. He has helped more than any of the doctors I have seen for the past 30 years. I would recomend any one to see him. It is well worth the drive. Thank you Dr. Dent you gave me back my life!!
