Ratings for Dr. Sheri E. Spirt
Dr. Spirt was constantly asking me basic questions she should already know, mis prescribing medication, giving unclear directions and expectations. Her assistant is equally unhelpful, they both seem like they would rather be doing anything else than their jobs that they clearly hate. Dr. Spirt would constantly yell through the wall at her assistant, rifle through papers silently as I sat there, and be mean to her dog. She constantly wasted my time and made me feel very uncomfortable.
The intake forms are excessive, like 30 pages, but I figured maybe she's just very thorough. Dr. Spirt has zero personal affect. No smile or warmth, just asks questions in an almost deposition style. Her office setup has the feeling of making the patient sit on a lower, smaller, distant level. She will ask something serious like "what was the abuse like" and the immediate next question is something disruptively trivial, so there is no fluidity, she doesn't respond, there's no comfort or ease in the exchange of dialogue. Some of her questions are irrelevant to treatment, coming across as nosy and invasive. Have never had to say to a doc before "I don't feel comfortable answering that, or, I don't see how that question is relevant..."
When I initially went to Dr. Spirt, I could barely get out of bed to face the world. She is a miracle worker. I am totally different person able to cope with every day life; I can’t believe I’m happy. I just with I would have listened to my friends, with regard to seeing a psycho pharmacologist. She has transformed my life. Awesome and fantastic! Thank you Dr. Spirt. And the big perk is that she has an adorable lovable dog that instantly brings you back to the realities of what really matters in life. And Kathy is the best office manager! Always a smile and pleasant.
I have never been to a doctor more unprofessional. In the middle of our session, she would yell out to her assistant random things, like going to get eye drops for her dog. I'd start explaining why I am feeling depressed, and she'd be texting on her IPad. One of the worst experiences I ever had.
I have seen Dr. Spirt for over 10 years both on the UWS and UES. During that time she has enabled me to maintain a stable mood and productive life (which is far easier said than done). She has an extremely deep understanding of the psychopharmological impact of medications on the human mind and body. She is cautious in her use of medications which I like. I have always found her to be professional but can understand how people get turned off by having a small dog in the office while being seen by a doctor. She is a doctor. She is not a psychologist. While I might not recommend her for talk therapy, I wholeheartedly recommend her as a psychiatrist.
Very unprofessional, zero empathy, the kicker was that she'd insist on having her dog in the office during appointments who would mount a stuffed toy constantly. When I said it was distracting and suggested to remove the toy she said, "if you take it away there'll be barking" Then I said to remove the dog since it's my appointment and she said the dog was needed in her office. On top of it, she was completely disengaged from my treatment.
Dr Spirt is thorough and knowledgeable. I suffer from severe depression and hadn't had relief, despite taking medication for years. Dr Spirt quickly had me sorted out and in as little as two months, I was feeling better than I had in years. I highly recommend her.
Dr. Spirt changed my life. I had been struggling with an issue that I did not even know was a real thing until I saw her. My own therapist that I had been seeing for a year recommended her. A huge weight lifted off my shoulder just from our first appointment. She is a true doctor, not a counselor. She is not there to spend hours listening to people cry and complain. She is a doctor who has incredible experience and knowledge. She is a New Yorker and does not waste time, which I loved and so appreciated. I needed someone to come up with a plan and be straight forward with me. I have been seeing her for over a year now and have never once felt that she only cared about money. The people who are complaining about her on these sites are embarrassing. A good doctor/therapist is not a hand-holder. Who complains about having a dog in the office? That is a LUXURY! I got so much more out of our 20 minute sessions than I ever did out of hour long therapy sessions with someone else (even though I could talk to Dr. Spirt all day and tell her everything because I love her!). I recommend her to anyone who can't dig themselves out of an emotional issue or can't see clearly. If you are ready to seriously deal with your issues then this is the person for you. Seeing her was the BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE.
Dr Spirt when my daughter gave her a credit card I thought she could use (care credit) she through it back at her yelling it declined. My daughter was frightened and did not want to return to her. I have personally met her and I am not impressed . She is unfriendly and unhelpful.
