Ratings for Dr. Andrew M. Casden
I've had three sugerys two on my back one on my neck three levels. My last surgery wys 2/2/2017 over eight hrs! They had to go through my stomach then flip me to my back to continue the surgery. Three levels again. It's been over a month and I feel better than before. Long road ahead. Dr Casden has improved my everyday life so much better! Great Dr and great person!!!
Dr. Casden is an excellent spine surgeon. He performed revision surgery on my lower back. Two years prior, a different surgeon operated on me using the XLIF technique. This surgery failed and caused me severe nerve pain, a drop foot and pseudoarthrosis (failure to fuse). Dr. Casden corrected this surgery and performed a laminectomy, facetectomy, decompression of L4-5, and removal of the cage and hardware from the previous surgery. Not only is he a great surgeon, but he has excellent bedside manner, always providing thorough answers to my questions and concerns. Six months after surgery, I was pain free and playing golf. I am so grateful to Dr. Casden and his staff for this successful surgery! I highly recommend him to anyone with back pain.
Dr Casden is the reasonI can walk a reasonable distance again! Twice in my life I feel he has been a true angel. I had a serious herniated disc iny neck at age 40 ( I was operated on it twice near my Home in Pa. The pain iny em ad arm were unbearable I saw at least four doctors at reputable hospitals in Pa all concluded the fusion took and couldn't understand the pain I had down my arm. Dr Casden looked at the same test and expats and immediately concluded the bone wasn't fussed and did an extensive surgery of removing the old fusion and doing a new one, I couldn't believe it but for the first time in years I didn't want my arm cut off. After that experience Realized how important the surgeon was. during the years my daughter has written Dr Casden emails for other medical advice on my behalf, Dr casden has always replied immediately , just recently again I needed S lower back surgery. Believe me the thought of riding home four hours after the surgery was a little dreadful but I would NEVER allow another Dr touch my back'. Dr casden ce through again he had me so numb it was easier going home than going to the hospital. Thanks to Dr casden I am walking a lot again. My three year old granddaughter days it best "Dr casden made Namny be able to Bend and walk again". When she plays if she isn't doccstuffin she's Dr casden. I truly wish I didn't love do far away and could get everyone I Know to go to zee casden a miracle worker. Again M
How is it possible to "Thank " a surgeon like Dr Casden.? I have suffered with Spinal pain for approximately 20 yrs. complicated by Osteoporosis. In Dec. 2012 I had the first of my surgeries. L5-S1.Anterior and Posterior fusions. At first it seemed to give me relief, however it did not last. Within 3 months A CT scan showed a fracture was the reason for my constant pain. In April 2014 the original surgeon advised another surgery to remove the broken vertibrae. I could not continue with the pain night and day and agreed. From the very first day, I felt something was very wrong, I developed a large hematoma and I was worse than ever. I was rushed back to the hospital unable to walk. I complained constantly of terrible pain. It took 4 months to find out the surgery failed. I researched diligently to find the right Surgeon and thankfully I found him in Dr Casden. He and his amazing staff Diana and Justin the PA, were the most helpful and knowledgable Medical office I have encountered ( and I work in a Hospital) Dr. Casden knew from the very first visit what was required to get me back to a pain free life. He needed to remove the failed spinal device, screws and rod and perform another fusion higher up the Spine in order for me to have the best chance to avoid another surgery due to the osteoporosis. The first surgery at Mt. Sinai was on 10/23 /14 to remove the problem device and the screws that were causing so much pain. Rather than send me home and have to return at a later date. Five days later I had a cage placed for extra support. I am now back at work full-time and have not felt this well in years. Dr. Casden gave me back my life! There are no appropriate words to convey my gratitude. I recommend him daily to anyone that remarks how well I am walking and how well I look. I am forever grateful to him..
Dr Casden has performed two life changing operations on my back. The first was 9 years ago when I had spinal stenosis and was walking bent over in great pain. The day after the surgery all my pain was gone. Last June 2013 he operated on me again. I again was in great pain as my vertebrae was tilted up and was away from my spine. He had to insert a cage to keep the vertebrae in place by going thru both my front and back. I had heard many stories about the pain I would be in for many months. However by the end of the first month after the operation I was off pain killers and now I am totally fine. throughout my ordeals he patiently explained what was happening every step of the way and followed up my progress until he was satisfied that I was totally recovered.
Brilliant surgeon and a wonderful man! Dr. Casden performed two surgeries on my spine in the same day! He fused a herniated disc at C6-C7 and another herniation at T12-L1. This was a pretty complicated surgery due to the fact that I already had C4-C6 fused 4 years prior and that he was performing both fusions during the same surgery. Dr. Casden was the 3rd doctor I saw before committing to surgery again. I felt the most comfortable with his approach and his ability to fuse the 3rd level in my cervical spine without having to remove the existing hardware. Both of the other surgeons that I saw prior wanted to remove the old hardware which would've been a longer, more evasive surgery. I am currently 2-1/2 months post op and doing fantastic. I started PT 2 weeks ago and the Therapists are thrilled with the range of motion I already have. I can't say enough about Dr. Casden and his staff. They're all committed to helping patients get better in a friendly environment.
In 2007, I played in the US Senior Golf Amateur. In 2009, I thought my golf career was over due to a herniated disc. I was unable to lie down and slept in a chair for 3 months. Since then, Dr. Casden has performed 2 microdiscetomy operations, in 2009 and in 2012. In both cases my debilitating pain was immediately gone after the operations. I was able to resume golf both times within 6-8 weeks. Since 2009, I have won 4 Club Championships, 2 Long Island Senior Championships and this week won the New York MGA Masters Championship. How fortunate I was to have been operated on by Dr. Casden. His expertise is unparalleled. He fully explained the entire procedure and my recovery timetable. My recoveries were right on schedule. Thanks to Dr. Casden I have been able to continue my passion for playing golf and being pain free.
I rarely review anything let alone a medical experience but Dr. Casden has been exceptional from day one. He gave me an understandable diagnosis to my herniated L4/L5 disc (after failed epidural injections, PT, massage, etc., talked about the potential success/failure rate of a microdiscectomy, and has followed up ever since via email. I was in excruciating pain for six months prior to the surgery and wondered if I'd ever be the father I wanted to be to my two young daughters. Dr. Casden's deft hand eliminated 95% of the pain and now (six weeks later) through yoga, stretching and PT I expect to become 100%. Overall, a dramatic and profound difference. I have no hesitation recommending Dr. Casden and his team. (Thus far insurance coverage has not been an issue and I hope it remains that way.)
As a 38 year old male, I was living with a degenerated L4-L5/L5-S1, for the past 15 years of my life. There were days I was bedridden for 7 to 10 days at a time. I had been to countless doctors and until recently, did not have confidence in one. After meeting with Dr Casden in April, 2013, we decided that a fusion was the best option for a life without pain. Dr Casden performed surgery on May 9th of this year and I can confidently say that the majority of my pain has subsided and I can see a dramatic difference even prior to my 'three month mark'. Prolonged sitting is no longer painful. I still have work to do on my end, i.e. physical therapy, swimming, stretching, etc, but I feel that Dr Casden has placed me on the path to life without pain. Dr Casden is a brilliant surgeon and one who I would highly recommend to anyone living with back issues. I am enormously grateful and excited for my future. Thank you Dr Casden
