Video Games and Sexual Desire: What Does It Mean?

Video Games and Sexual Desire: What Does It Mean?

Here’s how gaming away in your free time affects your sex life, if you’re an adult male.

So, you know someone who plays a lot of video games. And some of them are fully grown, adult males. It’s no big deal these days, really, and it’s better than hanging out in dingy bars, trying to pick up the wrong women each Friday night, isn’t it?

Sure. And maybe there’s a bunch of something else going on besides liking digital games that bleep and flash, when it comes to these guys. We’re not really sure what, but a new study has helped to scratch the surface on the issue.

Researchers recently looked that the relationship between playing video games and a man’s sexual desire. The study looked at 599 men between the ages of 18 and 50 years old.

Low Sex Drive

Playing video games may affect men's health.

It had them complete questionnaires, answering questions around their sexual activity and this is what was discovered: guys who play a lot of video games have a lower sexual desire than those who don’t play them.

This seems like something most of us could have guessed, doesn’t it? I mean, if these guys were raging to hook up with a partner for sex, they’d likely be spending more of their leisure time engaging with real people rather than a screen.

The second finding was a bit more curious, though. Researchers discovered that men who play video games for more than 1 hour a day were less likely to have problems with premature ejaculation than non-gamers.

What does this tell the world? The scientists weren’t sure. They did state that it was “the first observational study investigating the link between electronic entertainment and male sexuality, specifically for ejaculatory response and sexual desire,” though, and thus a landmark thing.

Now you know.
