Senior Dating: How to Tell Your Partner You’re Ready for the Next Step in the Relationship

You’re ready to take your relationship to the next level, but how should you bring it up to your senior partner?

It’s not always easy signaling your needs and wishes to your significant other. Especially in the earliest stages, where you’re still unsure about how they’ll react and if you even want the same things from the relationship. But letting your partner know you’re ready to take your relationship to the next level -whatever that might be for you- shouldn’t be hard, especially if you have these simple steps in mind.

Be clear about what the next step means for you

It’s imperative to define what that next level of the relationship means for you. Depending on where you’re at in your relationship with your partner, it might be transitioning from casual dates to a monogamous relationship, or it might be that you’re ready to move in with them. Whatever the step is for you, it’s essential to communicate it clearly to your significant other to avoid confusion and uncomfortable situations.

Be open and direct

As much as it’s important to send clear signals about what the next level is for you, it’s equally significant not to tiptoe around the matter. You can’t expect someone to read your mind and decipher your subtle hints: if you want something, you need to ask for it. Let’s say you’re ready for them to meet your kids- instead of arranging “chance” encounters or waiting for them to ask you first, simply tell them you’d love if your children could get to know your partner and see where it goes from there.

Be ready to face every outcome

The main reason why people of all ages hesitate when it comes to relationships is the fear of rejection, and it’s no different for seniors. However, if you don’t ask, you’ll never know! Even if the answer is not what you were hoping for, at least you’ll know where you stand. In any case, everything beats putting off the inevitable or being consumed by wondering.

As a senior, you might feel like there’s no time like today for, well, everything, but it doesn’t mean you should rush things. However, if you believe that the time is right for you and your partner to take things to another level, you shouldn’t hesitate to let your feelings known. All things considered, why should you waste precious time on someone who doesn’t want the same things as you do?
