Pillsbury Flour Recalled Due to Salmonella Fears

The flour was sold at Winn-Dixie and Publix, among other stores.

Baking? Do yourself a favor and go check your bag of flour.

Select Pillsbury Unbleached All Purpose Flour products have been recalled by Hometown Food Company amid fears they could be contaminated with salmonella.

The action is being exacted on 5lb bags with these specific lot codes, found on the Winn-Dixie website.

According to the companies involved, the recall is voluntary and no one has reported falling sick, but nonetheless, consumers are being asked to dispose of the flour or return it to their local store for a full refund.

Salmonella is a common bacterial infection that affects the intestinal tract. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, fever and diarrhea among other ailments.

While most people who contract salmonella poisoning recover within a few days, not all do. Those people living with compromised immune systems such as older adults and infants can develop dangerous complications. Even from flour? Yes. You may think of the infection as something that’s connected to raw eggs and under cooked chicken, but flour is also a dangerous source.

So, remember, as tempting as it looks, don’t eat that raw cookie dough.

Winn-Dixie has stated on its website that customers with questions about the recalled products can contact the Southeastern Grocers Customer Call Center toll free at (866) 946-6349, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. EDT, and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT.

According to Publix, roughly 12,185 cases of impacted flour were distributed through retailers nationwide.
