Meet the Woman Who Ran a 267 Mile Race…While Breastfeeding

And who won. And set a record…

Caring for a baby is hard enough on a regular day. They cry and whine, and must be fed every  minutes, or so it seems. But how about running in competition hundreds of miles at the same time over several days, while your feeding the babes from your breast? And winning the race?

Jasmin Paris, the British ultrarunner did just that earlier this month. Paris became the first woman to ever win the 268-mile Montane Spine Race. She beat all the men and all the women. She also broke a record, winning the race in the fastest time ever, covering the entire distance in just 83 hours, 12 minutes and 23 seconds.

What is this crazy race? The Montane Spine Race is considered one of the world’s most difficult endurance races.

The competition takes place in the British countryside during the winter, and runs from Edale, England to Kirk Yetholm in Scotland along the Pennine Way, one of Britain’s national trails.

The event was created by Arctic expedition guides Scott Gilmor and Phil Hayday-Brown in 2012. In its inaugural year, just 11 people participated and only 3 finished, (funny thing).

Participants are allowed seven days to try and finish the grueling course. Too cold in February? You can try your hand at it in summer too, as the same race has been taking place in warmer months, since 2017.
