Sofie Tate is an exemplary cheerleader for Nebraska Wesleyan University Cheer Coach, but she stands out from her peers not just for her cheering talent, but because she does it all with something most people don’t have: just one leg to stand on.

Tate, who graduated from Columbus High School in Lincoln, Nebraska, in May of 2015 thought that her cheer leading days would be over, once she left high school.

But that wasn’t so.

After seeing a performance by Tate on the local news, Terry Lange, the cheering coach at NWU invited her to try out for the NWU cheering squad.

“An individual with the limitation that she has, with what she was doing, it was just phenomenal to watch her perform,” said Lange.

Tate’s soon-to-be cheering mates weren’t sure that it was even possible to do what she does when she showed up to tryouts, but they were soon convinced otherwise.

Tate downplays it all.

“I just kind of do what I do, I don’t try to impress people,” she says.

Tate’s teammate, Caitlyn Skuodas says Tate’s a definite force of good for people.

“I can’t tell you the amount of people who tell her she is an inspiration, because what she does is amazing,” said Skuodas.

Last year, Nebraska Wesleyan University claimed the non-stunt cheer title at the Inaugural Great Plains Athletic Conference Cheer & Dance Invitational.

NWU scored a total of 173.5 points to win the non-stunt cheer title in the first ever event.
