This ‘Consent Condom’ Requires Four Hands to Open

A new sex product ensures you have the two essential things when having sex – a condom and consent.

Tulipán, an Argentinean sex toy company has combined the two with the world’s first ‘consent condom’, which is contained in a package that needs four hands to open.

The package has a series of circles spread out along its outer edges, four of which need to be pressed in at the same time to open the box.

The box reads, “If it’s not a yes, it’s a no.”

It’s still up in the air how effective the consent condom will be in dissuading non-consensual activity – do people that don’t care for consent care about condoms? – but this innovative way to promote consent has to be applauded. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say nearly one in every five women have experienced completed or attempted rape in their lifetimes.

“Tulipán has always spoken of safe pleasure, but for this campaign we understood that we had to talk about the most important thing in every sexual relationship—pleasure is possible only if you both give your consent first,” said a spokesperson for Tulipán’s ad agency, BBDO, in a statement.

The company has already started handing out consent condoms for free at bars in Buenos Aires. They aren’t for sale on their site currently, but should be available sometime this year.
