5 McDonald’s Healthier Menu Items That Have More Fat Than a Big Mac

Trying to meet that New Year’s resolution to eat a bit more on the healthy side? Still find it hard to avoid fast food joints in the crunch for lunch, so your opting for salads?

Sounds like a good idea. But evidence shows that sometimes you might as well go for the burger.

While green veggies may seem like a logical way to reduce your calorie and fat intake, the nutritional content of many “healthy menu items” is much worse than you’d guess. Proof?

Here’s a list of 5 items on the McDonald’s menu that you’d be surprised to learn have just as much or more fat than a Big Mac. That’s right- the Big M!

Check it out.

1) McDonald’s Keep Calm, Caesar On kale

Myth busters: this package of greens has MORE grams of fat than a Double Big Mac! A Double Biggie has 38 grams of fat -yowsers- but this salad, with the dressing, comes in at a whopping 45 grams of fat and 730 calories.

Makes you think twice. Made with baby kale, bacon, Parmesan, garlic croutons, crispy chicken and Asiago Caesar Pure Kraft Dressing it’s more of a meal than a light side.

2) McDonald’s Caesar Salad with Crispy Chicken

It’s that crispy chicken and the Caesar dressing that do this item in as well. This salad totals a staggering 520 calories and 31 grams of fat. A regular Big Mac has the same amount of calories and only-if we can say ‘only’-28 grams of fat.

Maybe if the chicken were grilled, the bacon bits were taken out and the dressing was a vinaigrette, the numbers on this puppy would come down. For the moment: buyer beware!

3) The Chicken & Bacon Signature McWrap® with Crispy Chicken

Wraps always sound healthy with lower carbs, no bun, no red meat and maybe less calorie-laden sauce. Hold on though. Look at your numbers and all will be revealed to thee: this tasty sandwich wrap clocks in higher than a Big Mac with 600 calories and a total of 33 grams of fat.

Delicious but definitely not nutritious!

4) The Double Filet o’ Fish

Fish is always a healthier option over beef which makes this sandwich attractive-but this one packs in the calories and fat. The regular filet o’ fish sandwich has 21 grams of fat, just under a Big Mac’s totals. The double comes in above the Biggie with a grand total of 29 grams of fat and 560 calories! More energy than I could ever need from the deep blue sea.

5) The Quarter Pounder-even without cheese. Spoiler alert: the BLT option is the worst!

While the Quarter Pounder seems like it would be smaller and less dangerous to consume than the Big Mac, (which weighs about half a pound,) and thus perhaps healthier, apparently labels can be deceiving.

The Quarter Pounder itself IS smaller than the Big Mac with 420 calories and 20 grams of fat, but add some cheese and you’re up to the same level as a Big Mac, with 520 calories. Go beyond that to BLT level and you’re way above.

A Quarter Pounder BLT far surpasses a Big Mac’s totals with 640 calories and 39 grams of fat.

Evidence that there is truth in advertising, and also some saucy secrets.
