Do not waste your time commenting on these websites. If you have had a problem with a doctor go directly to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC and file a complaint. Since the only way there will be any change is if the complaints are directed to an authority that can do something about it.

Dr Van Laeken and her Team is just THE BEST!!! Medical issues are stressful enough. When you can put yourself in the hands of a totally excellent surgeon and her team, life is just so much easier. So much easier going into surgery when you know that Dr Van Laeken is awake and on the job. I know she will be 110% vigilant of everything that is going on pre, during and post surgery. I can just relax and have a beauty sleep. Dr Van Laeken did an excellent job of doing my bilateral masectomy. And recently she had to do major stomach reconstruction due to medical issues. My long term GP is says "You don't even know how beautiful a job this is." (which I don't). "I look at reconstructive surgery all the time and this is gorgeous". And "I want to go to Dr Van Laeken too for a tummy tuck". (My GP and I are both 67).
I also really appreciated Dr Van Laeken's 'get up and go' attitude toward life. She encouraged me to be smart, but to move and to get back into the swing of life and activities. I really, really appreciated that. She believed in me.
Also, Dr Van Laeken's team. Her nurses (now I forget their names but you wonderful people know who you are) are friendly, knowledgable and gentle. And Melissa, who does the hospital booking is always just bang on the money. Totally on every detail. Quick to get back to you - just amazing. Also, if you ever need to get into Dr Van Laeken, she will always make room for you, somehow or somewhere. Again amazing.

One other thing. For those people that have commented that they though they might have received "less service" because they were from BC Med and not private patients, well I just want to tell you all that I am one of those patients referred from BC Med, and I don't believe I could have had a better doctor, service, and outcome if we were zillionaires. Dr Laeken is not like this. I have talked with her and she is in this business because of her passion to help people have better lives.

I am very happy I chose Dr. Van Laeken to perform my breast reduction. I spent years struggling with the common issues of large breasts, such as back pain; difficulty doing the workouts I wanted to do (running, boxing etc); and not feeling comfortable in clothes or bathing suits. Dr. Van Laeken supported me through the discussions of what she could do to help me with my concerns. I felt extremely comfortable with her doing my surgery and she did a great job. Yes, there’s scars but over time they really have faded - it’s been about 3 years now since my surgery. After the bandaging was removed and a few weeks had passed, I knew that I was so happy with my decision to do this surgery. Even with some scarring, I knew it was worth it. Today I still am so grateful for Dr. Van Laeken and that I chose to do this!

First off please read this if you are considering Nancy lanlaeken. I did a lot of research and thought I found the right doctor but I was very wrong.
It has taken me over a year to write this as that is how upset I am. She totally botched my breast. Here’s the story.
I was so excited to see VanLaeken because I had done research and didn’t listen to the reviews when I wish I would have because I thought oh these are just angry people over the internet but they are all right and I had similar experiences. I went to see her for a lift and reduction and it cost A LOT. I thought we’ll she’s the best so you have to pay for the best . WRONG!!!! she is a complete rip off and tells you what you want to hear and very condescending . The results were horrific. She cut me from side to side when all you need is an inch or two incision in the bottom, I wish I could show a picture.I have even compared with friends who had the same thing and their scaring is flawless and only an inch while I’m left with these huge jagged scares across my body. I’m so upset with them. It’s like she had been shaking the scaring is all over the place.I told her this in person and she told me that they were fine and I was only upset because of a recent accident I was in.. she had the nerve to say that.. when no I was upset with HER WORK. it had nothing to do with that accident which didn’t effect my breast. She finally said she would re do them but charged me another 6 grand!!! The results… the same low not lifted breasts with even more scaring. She will not listen to you and does what she wants and when you say your opinion she becomes defensive and very rude. I was very shocked with her behaviour regarding this as it was her work…
Please listen to all these reviews these are real people with real experiences with her, I’ve been told the ‘good’ reviews are from her staff… LINDSAY who I dealt with that great! Not a bad word to say about her. But please re think this surgeon. I now have to live with low breast after I said I wanted high profile as I have elasticy skin and I’m 21 grand in the hole with horrible breast that I’m not self conscious about.

I have so many wonderful things to say about Dr. Van Laeken but let’s start with the most important: My RESULTS. I’m so happy. To call my results perfect would be an understatement. After two kids my tummy was very soft and jiggly, with loose skin that hung over my underwear. I expected to be thrilled when the skin and muscles were pulled tight, and of course I am. What really amazed me was the skill that is clearly evident in my perfectly executed scar. It is pure precision. I have seen other tummy tuck scars at six+ weeks post op, and they are often raised, red, and bumpy. Mine is smooth, thin, straight, and completely faded in some areas. I have no idea how she did it, but I am blown away.

I also added on a bit of lipo because of the recovery time I would be spending in bed on meds anyway, as well as to double up on the facility and anaesthetist costs. I think it was a great decision, even though I was more nervous about this procedure than the abdominoplasty. Dr. Van Laeken was so kind as to see me for additional appointments leading up to my surgery date to go over my concerns. She truly listened to me and understood what targeted areas I wanted to address on my inner thighs and upper arms. I was very concerned about dents and dimples, but thankfully she executed perfection on my lipo as well.

Next thing I want to address is the overall experience. I am so glad I trusted Dr. Van Laeken’s impeccable reputation in the medical field over any negative reviews online. When I told my family doctor that I was getting this procedure, he asked who was doing it and then said, relieved “You’ll be in good hands” after hearing her name. This was a message repeated to me throughout the experience. Whenever I had a question or concern at the Cambie Surgical Centre (for example, ‘Why is my appointment to get my drains out 6 days post op when I read they could come out 3-5 days post op?’), the nurses and staff would say things like “I know Dr Van Laeken takes every decision very seriously” or “Whatever she has planned is what you need because she would only want the very best for you” which told me I did not need to second guess anything and also impressed me how much they all respect her.

From the moment I met Dr. Van Laeken at the consultation, she really put me at ease. She had a no-drama approach to the recovery for this procedure, which was opposite to what I’d found in my research. I asked Dr. Van Laeken all kinds of questions, for example “will I need to sleep in a recliner?”, “Will I need a walker?”, “How long until I can carry my kids?” and after having gone through it now, I can say that she was right about everything. When I asked her about adding on lipo, she said the arms and thighs was reasonable, but discouraged me from considering lipo under the chin. I think that shows her thoughtfulness and restraint. She recommended I stay overnight at the surgery centre, and I am so glad that I took her advice.

For anyone considering this, the recovery is not as bad as online research will make it sound. I have given birth to two babies, one with and one without an epidural. This recovery process was far less painful than either of those experiences. My pain was really never more than a 4 or 5 out of 10, and even that was rare. At 10 days post op my husband had a business trip and I was back on deck with two kids and able to manage.

I also want to thank Dr Van Laeken for the little ways she went the extra mile, such as personally phoning my mom when I came out of surgery and taking care of a previous scar for me. She really goes above and beyond. I know I will look back on this procedure as one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I trusted my body to the right surgeon, and I certainly was in good hands.

Do not bother with this doctor if you are a MSP patient!! She could care less about you if you aren't a paying customer. When I met her for my first consultation at the hospital, I got a really bad first impression. She was very cold and short with us. She spent less than five minutes talking to us. Still, I decided to go ahead and book the surgery. I was put on a waiting list for the surgery and was told the wait would be one year, which is ridiculous. It has now been a year and a half and I am still waiting with no end in sight. I have had other health issues that need addressing by her, and have contacted her office multiple times. I am always given one excuse after another. They promise they will speak to the doctor and get back to me, and then never do. It is very obvious she only cares about the money that comes from her boob jobs and tummy tucks and not those with true medical ailments. My experience has been VERY disappointing and frustrating.

Please be very careful if you're planning to choose this doctor. She really screwed up my right breast(implant). It looks horrible and she wanted me to pay for her mistake. I would not take my chances with her again and I am now on this site to find a REAL doctor to fix her mess.

Botched breast augmentation in 2005. Major scarring on my nipples as well as nerve damage. Arrogant to the core when I asked any questions she perceived as challenging her expertise. I explanted with another surgeon this year and couldn't believe how minimal my scarring is compared to my first lift with Nancy. She's a nice lady but definitely not the best
