I had such a lovely experience with Dr. Brian Kirkup at Westside practice. It was great just entering into the practice and being greeted with a smile from Christine at recpeption and her having my files ready to go. I met with a Dr Brian Kirkup and he is fabulous!! He was able to make my first session feel calm and casual. He is great at listening and answering any questions or concerns that I had. I felt very heard and validated with my experiences and didn't feel like I had to prove myself like with some other doctors. I went in for mental health concerns and a behavioural disorder, there was no judgement or anything negative, it was like chatting to a friend who has a wealth of knowledge. It was a very well rounded experience and discussion! I am so pleased that I chose a psychiatrist that suits me

Dr Kirkup literally saved my life. After seeing many other health professionals I was so relieved to find a Dr who actually listens and doesn't make negative assumptions that have no place in the process of trying to improve your quality of life. For those who have posted a negative review all I can say is that Dr's are human and everyone has a bad day. You would of achieved much more if you had of talked about your concerns with Dr Kirkup rather than punishing him over the internet. He is far from 'aged & going through the motions' so are you sure you are reviewing the right person? Dr Kirkup is a brilliant Psychiatrist who has retained the ability to have empathy for his patients. He is worthy of 20 stars along with his helpful admin staff, Suzi.

On my last visit to dr kirkup in december 2015 he informed me the only way i coul continue onnthe disability pension was if I took the drug lithium.
Lithium is not the preferred drug of choice for mild to moderate bipolar disorder brcsuse of its toxicity. I had to agree as i could not live on newstartb. Afterc2 nights on a mild dose i suffered acute auditory hallucinstions ehich is considered a severe side affect. Dr kirkup suggested i continue with lithium which i consider to be a serious breach of professional standards

Excellent psychiatrist. Very honest and empathetic. Able to give a balanced perspective on my issues. He made me feel at ease...I didn't feel rushed like I have with other doctors. I feel very fortunate to have found Brian and I highly recommend him

I found him pleasant but disinterested. He is quite elderly and past his prime in my opinion. I didn't see him after one appointment due to the impression that he was just 'going through the motions' and I felt me and my complex issues deserved more than that! Also, no allowance for those on Centrelink - I wish I had spent the $150 he hit me up with on the first appointment on some new clothes and a restaurant meal! To me he was totally useless.
