This man is an arrogant, ignorant, rude individual who might be "book smart", buy has ZERO ability to show compassion or empathy to anyone unfortunate enough to be his patient.
He neither listens to what his patient is saying, nor does he care.
One wonders WHY he chose medicine as his life's calling..he has NO ability whatsoever to walk a mile in his patients shoes.
We are ALL human beings, and we ALL should be treated with respect and some modicum of kindness.
Dr Au obviously missed the lessons taught on proper bedside manners.!!!

He seemed nice and friendly at first. However it quickly became apparent he lacks empathy and doesn’t actually care for all his patients. My mom was going through chemo and was getting very ill. She called him to ask a question as she was scared and her health was deteriorating with treatment and he was frustrated she had a question and hung up on her. To see my mom treated like that by a doctor she should trust was gut wrenching. And can you imagine him saying that to someone going through treatment alone and how awful they would feel? He doesn’t care about patient education or autonomy. He thinks he’s better and smarter and that’s all he saw in all my encounters with him. Meet people where they are at, Au. It makes better practitioners.

Terrible experience with this doctor during cancer treatment. Please note, I know of three others that had excellent experience with him, but that was not the case for me. First chemo treatment he ordered too much chemo drug and I was very sick. Much more sick than normal chemo sickness. I was told the amount of drug was more than any patient should have received. After my fourth chemo session when I was very sick and emotionally upset, he recommended I stop chemo. F*** that! At the end of my chemo, I had ongoing issues (related to chemo) and Dr Au and his nurse refused to see me. At this point I did not want to see him but was told he was still my doctor. When I secured a visit with the supervising physician, I miraculously received a phone call from Dr Au's nurse saying I had an appointment with him.

Really personable and down to earth. He treats you like a friend and he takes the time to explain things well, and answer all of your questions. Very hip, young, cool guy. :). At the same time, he is very professional and very knowledgeable.

it is hard to believe this is the same doctor who assisted my mother with end of life care over the last three days. He was patient, detailed, caring, clarified our hopes and then explained in detail our options. He then altered the care over the three days till end of life, fully respecting our wish for no pain. I highly recommend Dr. Au. It might be useful to explain that my background is systems analysis, so I can be precise, blunt and terse. I highly appreciate the help that Dr. Au provided my mother and my family over the last three days.

Dr. Au is an unorthodox practicioner. If you like a traditional doctor he might not be for you. I loved his approach, and credit him with pretty much getting me through chemo last year. This was my only appointment at the Cross I always looked forward to. Give him a chance. There really is a method to his approach, and as soon as you let go of what you might expect from regular docs, you will find his formula really works!! I can't thank him enough for all the support and interventions he provided!!

Got bad mouth sores from my colorectal cancer cheom. Said there was nothing for them that when you take certain chemo some patients get them. Went to a website and found a product that can prevent mouth sores. Even had published data in a major medical journal. Doctors don't seem well informed about new options for making you feel better. They're pretty focused on the cancer. But if you can't eat or swallow, it's hard to feel better.
