He seems nice enough, but I don’t feel like I got much help for my problems so I’m going to find another doc.

These lo ratings are not fair AT ALL to Dr. Peter MacLean. I have been a patient of his for a few years. I am hard case...an Afghanistan Combat Veteran with PTSD. Its his job as a quality psychologist to challenge bad habits/behaviours and it is up to the patient to "DO THE WORK". When I first met him I was a complete mess and he got me on track and back to school to becoming a medical health professional. If it wasnt for his expertise and advice I would'nt be where I am at in life now. He genuinely cares for his patients.

I met with Dr M a handful of times, but never seemed to find a groove. There is no receptionist or staff of any sort, or other practitioners for that matter. There’s just a small dark waiting room and one office. The office reeks of coffee and bad breath, which made it very difficult for me to focus. I don’t think I was the only one having trouble focusing, Dr M seemed to jump around from one task to another, and each time we met he took a different stance on things. The amount of assignments and tasks was just silly, as a single mom I don’t have hours each day to do homework.
I finally called it quits once it became clear that I wasn’t going to learn anything from my appointments. Wish I’d done some research and read these reviews before booking that first appointment, it would have saved me a lot of time and money.

My hour long appointment became 30min once all the administrative tasks were taken care of. I feel like I didn’t get my money’s worth.

After many years of therapy in my hometown, I wanted to continue when I moved to Ottawa. This therapy was very different though, not at all what I was expecting.

His office is located in a convenient location but it’s not worth the visit. My sessions were pretty pointless and unproductive, with zero focus or progress. I’m clearly not a good fit, but maybe someone else is

He offers practical solutions to life’s problems! Job problems? Get a new job. Family problems? Cut them out of your life. Every one of life’s problems can be solved just as easy as that according to him. Dr McLean suggested I needed to lose weight and told me to sign up with TOPS. W the actual F?! I never once mentioned my weight or said I was unhappy with my weight. He thinks he’s the all mighty great one. He isn’t supportive or helpful at all. I saw him for a few months and every single week he’d try to sell me on things (and is happy to express his disappointment if you decide to take a pass on one of these purchases) He’s constantly telling you of things you NEED to buy! Books, apps, programs, online tests etc etc. It was ridiculous. I’m sorry I wasted my time.

Looks like he is tired of listening to people, so he finds a way to make people tired of him. He will offer a generous amount of explaining how to print and Marie Kondo your handouts in a file cabinet, plastic holders, envelops, any possible kind of container and next to none interest in your problems. He is tone-deaf, and he will mock every feedback except "You are SO right, oh the knowledgeable one." Listening to any psychology book on audible will give you much better value for money with the same level of human contact.

Has decent wealth of handouts for various mental health issues. However, the man is a pompous and stuck in his ways. Spends most of the session lecturing and never really taking any inputs from the clients. Simply does not show any sort of compassion and shoots down any ideas or suggestions from the client as he is unwilling to change from his preset agenda. He would make a okay university lecturer for psychology, but sadly is a terrible therapist. Most of the sessions are wasted because he goes around in circles with his admin style homework which is just overkill and not at all feasible for most adults as they have families, home and office work to care of. He also does not hesitate to criticize even if your slightly off what he expects. Sometimes he himself gives vibes of irritability and impatience. I realize this is rather critical review but it's true. If Dr. Maclean focused on being a compassionate human being, his wealth of knowledge in the field would benefit him and his clients.
