Dr. Paul Chong has been my cardiologist for approximately 10 years. I had a heart attack and he treated me at Mackenzie Health Hospital in Richmond Hill. For some 25 years I had lived with the challenges of diabetes, then those of heart disease that often develops from diabetes. I had suffered through the glib indifference and all-too-evident carelessness of a number of doctors and cardiologists, and felt powerless as my disease and its complications worsened.
If you're fortunate to live long enough, you find that once in a while, but only ONCE in a while, providence intervenes and puts someone very special in your path.
Providence brought Dr. Paul Chong to me in 2008: a man who not only changed, but also saved my life . . . more than once.
To say the least, Dr. Paul is an extraordinary person and doctor, unique in his talents, his patience, his exceptional skills, his generosity, his passion and his humanity. He is an inspiring model of a well-rounded and full life. A person who
I have seen struggle and sacrifice so that others might live a better life, or even, just live. A humble man who stays out of the limelight preferring to remain obscure in his labour – but in that obscurity has carried many up the long, uncertain and rugged road of life.
In 2009 I started to feel the worrisome and debilitating sting of angina. During moments of crisis, it is reassuring and reaffirming to turn to the people in our lives upon whom we feel we can rely, who can provide us with an encouraging word, a skillset, but above all, who are willing to go a little bit, or a lot out of their way to help us out and turn our situations around. In 2009, and thereafter repeatedly to this day, i have turned to Dr. Paul, because he is such a person. . . one who demonstrates a high level of caring and concern for a patient's conditions and circumstances; demonstrates real passion, thoughtfulness, skill, resourcefulness, and good judgment. Despite his outstanding skills and professional manner, I have always appreciated how his good nature always shines through. He has impressed me with his unfailing dedication to his patients, and his enthusiasm for life. I find his dedication and enthusiasm to be truly refreshing, and his demeanor to be uplifting.
He infuses his tasks with a unique energy, making each act a gift. As his patient, I have always felt well cared for, nurtured and restored by his work, and supported by his gifts. For me, Dr. Paul is absolute proof that angels do walk among us.
