Steven Charapata implanted a Medtronic intrathecal pain pump in me in October of 1997, replaced it in February of 2002. I began having unknown neurological issues in summer of 2000 during the next 6 years, 3 seperate class 1 recalls from the FDA which indicate an imminent danger of serious disability or death. Even though I saw Dr. Charapata at least 2-3 times per month he chose not to follow Medtronic published procedures in dealing with the neurological issue I continued to have until September of 2006 when the pump completely failed, causing a life threatening situation for me. It was not until the summer of 2007 that I became aware of the recall that had been issued before my pumps failure. I now have a spinal cord injury and multiple neurological injuries. The amazing part of this is that Dr. Charapata never informed me of the recalls. I filled a complant with the Missouri Board of Healing after investigating issued a letter of reprimand. I believe for me he was a very dangerous MD.

He was definitely a "tad" arrogant, but once you get used to him he kind of grows on you. My problems see to be strange but he really tried to come up with a few ideas.

This Dr. has given me my life back. He may be a tad arrogant, but what Dr. isn't these days. He is extremely knowledgeable, caring, and always looking out for your best interest. By far the best pain Dr. in kc- and trust me I have seen many! The nursing staff is great and the same can be said for the office personnel.
