Dr. Fine prepared me for my surgery with answering all of my questions and taking the time to address each one with me directly. I know this took a lot of time, but he was and is a very kind, patient, and very talented surgeon. I felt very comfortable with him doing my surgery and his staff is always very helpful, professional and kind as well. 10 out of 10 Gold Stars from me. Kathy Dean

Met with Dr. Fine about 3 years ago regarding chronic lower back pain that had taken control of my life. Dr. Fine reviewed my MRI and radiologist Report and recommended physical therapy. He refused to give me anything for pain and Advil, Aleve and Tylenol were not helping anymore. I went through a year of physical therapy and two spinal injections from Dr. Sweeney at The Southeastern Spine. In the beginning I was accepting of a more conservative approach however when this failed I made another appointment to see Dr. Fine and appointments I might add are not readily available so there was a long wait. When I went for my appointment with Dr. Fine I was told I would be seeing Dr. Fine's PA. After my long wait and all that I had been through I felt deserted and abandoned by Dr. Fine. Mr. Fine's PA and I agreed that I should get another MRI and make another visit to see Dr. Fine. I went across the hall that same day and obtained the MRI and scheduled another appointment to see Dr, Fine months later. When I went to the office at 9am for my appointment I was told by somewhat arrogant and indifferent office staff that someone tried to reach me that same morning to say Dr. Fine would not be seeing any patients that day and they would call me to reschedule. I never received that call and will never go back, He could be the best Dr. on the planet, but his handling of me as a patient puts him dead last in my book. I will never go back. Also I now have stomach ulcers and gastritis and liver tox from all the Ibuprofen I have been taking.

After more than year of physical therapy, I took the advice of two colleagues whose lives Dr Fine had changed and made an appt. to see if he could help me with my head, neck, and shoulder pain. It turns out that I had one bad disk, one so-so disk, and several bone spurs (i.e. arthritis-type bulges) that were pinching nerves.

Dr Fine is an incredibly kind man. My husband was extremely nervous about me having spine surgery, as I am only 47 and my work life is 90% desk and computer work. When not at work, I lift weights, dive, kayak, cycle, run, etc. Weighing the risks and benefits of surgery was very serious for us, but my pain level was already interfering with my lifestyle and making me very unhappy. I love to dance, and had already given up dancing, weight lifting, and beach diving, because of the long walks with a tank on.

I will say 100% without question that I would not have had this surgery with any other doctor. The people I personally know who he helped literally rave about him. Additionally, my neighbor, a doctor, said I was very lucky to have found my way to him. My vet said she was worried about me having cervical surgery, until I said who was doing it. Then, she noted how Dr Fine had given her assistant's life back to her, and that he is as state of the art as one can be.

He is also extremely ethical. He will not perform surgery on you unless it is 100% necessary and 100% in your best interests. This proved true for me, when during surgery, Dr Fine decided that one of the two disks I was going to have removed could be saved. I only needed to have one taken out, and the big mess of bone spurs cleaned up. He was apparently right, because I feel like a million germinating flowers, and I am not taking pain meds. I just don't need them, and I have been exercising at home with a stepper and stationary bike, with my collar on, but it's ok. I can't lift weights, but that will come, and I’ll be ready for it.

When you meet Dr Fine, you will immediately note that he is brilliant, kind, soft-spoken, and wonderful. My nervous husband was very comfortable with him right away.

Here is my advice to you, if neck pain is changing your life for the negative and not going away. I was fortunate, in that I got this advice from a friend and supervisor whom he had helped.

1. Make an appointment to see him asap. He has an outstanding reputation, and his skills are in extremely high demand. Expect a bit of a wait. It’s worth it.

2. If you can, see him before you talk to anyone else or try to delay surgery with other types of help. Dr. Fine sent me to a top-notch physical therapist ( David Stevenson, also excellent) for 6 weeks, to make 100% sure that my issues needed surgery. Let Dr Fine make that call for you, and trust him. I had already been through months and months of physical therapy, and many chiropractor visits, before I went to Dr Fine. See him first. Let him send you to a PT who specializes in your issue. I highly recommend David Stevenson, who owns a practice in Sarasota, on Palm Avenue. He is the PT Dr Fine sent me to. Dr Stevenson could not make my problem go away with PT, but he gave me many tips on how to make my life bearable at work. He even told my husband how to rebuild my road bike, so I could still exercise and sit completely straight up. I call it my clog dancer bike. If you need to start with PT, I highly recommend him. He was the 4th PT I had seen for this issue. He knows neck issues and is extremely empathic and kind. He will not load your schedule with appt. just to collect fees.

2: Dr Fine will likely recommend wearing a post-surgical collar for comfort. Use it. It's not uncomfortable. Don't take the darned thing off. Not all surgeons require it, but you should trust Dr Fine. I wear mine when I exercise, and to bed as well. I, the month since my surgery, I have not had a single spasm, and my pain level was negligible. I had the best Dr around, and I followed his instructions to the letter.

If you have neck problems, I hope you will find your way to him. I heard so many horror stories about people being worse after surgeries, having corrective surgeries to fix the first ones, etc. My boss and friend who is in her late 70s had 3 bad disks he fixed ten years ago, and she is still pain free.
Dr Fine is a mensch, and my hubby is the only other person I have met in my adult life who fits a true idealist's understanding of that word. This is someone whose field and work, and helping people, genuinely matter to him. It shows.

I apologize for the length of this review, but at least you know it's legit. Even if you have to wait to get on his list, this is who you need to see. His staff is polite, patient, responsive, and very knowledgeable when you have questions.

Hard to get an appointment. Dr. Fine seemed very competent and knowledgeable at initial visit. At second visit, his PA was excellent in explaining the why and how in upcoming surgery. Answered all my questions in an exemplary way.

Dr Fine is by far the best doctor I have ever had contact with either in the military or after I retired. He operated on my cervical spine twice due to injuries I received in the military. His professionalism, bedside demeanor and outstanding surgicial ability is the reason I am able to live a great life. His staff anf assistant are truly outstanding as well. There is no other doctor who I would let operate on my spine other than Dr Fine! I trust my life with him!
