Dr. Cook sexually harassed and inappropriately touched me. I have never spoken of this on any public forum, but now I feel I must in case there are other women who are at risk. At the time, I felt I had no recourse because few doctors understood my disease or were willing to treat it, and Dr. Cook offered a wealth of knowledge that I felt gave me hope. Dr. Cook exploited my need for care and my vulnerability as a young woman. I also thought I was the only one he had victimized, but I know now that the pathology of predators almost certainly predicts that he has done this to other women.

Dr. Cook interspersed medical dialogue with lewd stories about women he claims to have slept with. He used profanities in his descriptions of his exploits, and he also made various comments about my physical appearance. He placed me on a migraine medication called Topamax to treat my pain, but also said it was the perfect medicine for me because it causes weight loss, and if I "lost ten pounds, I could enter a beauty pageant and win." He also referred to me as a "China doll with porcelain skin." I began bringing other people with me to appointments, but this did not stop the behaviors, including the unnecessary touching. While I am not comfortable sharing all the details of his behavior, I want to warn women that while he is a highly intelligent individual, he is not your last resort. Please, do NOT seek care from this doctor.

Dr. Cook takes time with you unlike most Doctors. I've been seeing him for almost 5 years and without him I would not be here right now. His level of care and compassion was so impressive mt Mother went out of network to see him. He made such a difference in her life. He made her last few years so much better and at almost 80 years old she had returned to working and being active, happy, and able to work. Quality of life is important and he cares. I know there is only so much medicine can do but having a doctor who you know cares for you is worth everything.

I was misdiagnosed by Dr. Cook. I was put on high doses of opiates for fibromyalgia. I have never had a DR. WHO talks a lot about sexual things. But he did. I am a female but even when my husband went in with me, Dr. COOK spoke like this. This wasnt the worst part. I was misdiagnosed. I was young. In my 40s. The high doses of drugs killed my chance of having any more children. I have no eggs now. Im not in menopause but I don't have a period. I am devistated. After 4 plus years I demanded an MRI AND it showed ARTHRITIS (NO NEED FOR OPIATES) BUT THERE WAS A BIGGER BEAST (SI JOINT DISFUNCTION) TREATMENT IS A POSITIVE TEST WITH A STEROID SHOT INTO THE JOINT AND THEN AN ABLATION (RADIO FREQUENCY )shutting down the nerves. This takes you completely out of pain for up to 9 months. No meds needed. This is the treatment I should have received. He should have refered me out to someone who could have done this. Insted, he took cash payments every month 300 plus dollars and I slept my life away on a death sentence of opiates mixed with Benzos. My Drs. Say its a miracle I am alive. I am alive because I never took as much as he prescribed. I could be dead. I'm alive...but I cant have the 2 more children I dreamed about having. He refuses after 2 years to give me my medical records. All of this is a tragic nightmare. During the time I was on drugs I lost all my friends, my family my life. Im left with major depression and on top of it all I lost my very successful business. What to do now?

I have fought the better part of my adult life with begging doctors to understand what I was telling them. Some doctors are on a God complex and could care less about what the patient says. And then some could just care less about your situation and give you a med to shut you up. Believe this. My first appointment with Dr Cook lasted for over 3 hours. I am almost 56 years old and it beats the pure heck out of me having to drive the 2.5 hours to see him. However, if we lived 10 hours away it would be worth the drive and the pain I get from it. This doctor is intelligent, honest, and gifted in the treatment of patients as if he were some type of angel. This is not a smoke blowing essay but a truthful one. If you can find any doctor in the United States that exhibits more truthful care and consideration for the patients he cares for I would say you are not telling the truth. When I was a US Marshall and on the road a lot I had to meet a lot of different doctors that cared more about what policy makers thought than they looked at the results from treatment from a Doctor. When a doctor goes all out to help you, especially when you are at the end of a rope you develop an admiration for this Doctor for his willingness to work with you and help you live your life the way most in this world just take for granite. If the scale to rate this doctor is between 1 and 10 then he rates a 12 in every way. My life is worth a lot to me. Before meeting him I could not get out of the bed. Im not going back in it either. Thank you Dr. Cook.....md

All the positive ratings on here about Dr. Cook is so true. I can add that Dr. Cook is God sent. After being a patient of his for 12 1/2 yrs, about 3-4 yrs ago he informed me that he could no longer accept insurance and that he would refer me to another Dr. SMH,I thought about my the prior neurologist; I politely said I'll pay you out of pocket. Thanks to you Dr. Cook a lot of my pain has been alleviated. May you continue to excel with excellence in your job knowledge. To Tracy and Sandra kudos! 17

Pain consumes your life at times. Other times it becomes so intense that you can't get it off your mind at all. I went to Dr. Cook for several problems. I am 54 years old and have been lied to by some Dr.s. I like most of us have met many doctors that do not care near as much about their patients as they do the way they appear to some judging body, or their own pocketbook. And then after being taken advantage of financially and robbed of HOPE its bad. that is hard when folks do not have the money. And honestly, right at the point before I gave up on my life and begging Drs. to just please help me get what I could back of my life I was fortunate enough to meet Dr Cook. Never in 54 years have I ever had a Dr. say they cared and MEANT IT. It is not about a dollar for this Dr. Maybe if I sound partial it perhaps rings true. If you could ask yourself how you would feel about someone that literally "SAVED" your life. Dr. Cook gives a damn, an yes Im partial. He helped me get back my life.

I had gone to other Dr's for my migraines and they threw scripts at me and did tests. The migraines continued. I saw Dr. Cook and within a year of working with me I don't have an average of one migraine at least a week to about one every 3 to 4 months and I now have a medicine and knowledge from him that I attack them and they don't put me down for days, maybe for an hour or so. I can't beleive how much this man has changed the quality of my life. I would recommend him to anyone and I have. Sometimes he is slow getting to you because he spends as much time with you as you need. I appreciate this.

I have been going to Dr. Cook for over 10 years and I have never met any doctor who surpasses him in knowledge, professionalism, and compassion. He is the only doctor out of MANY who has been able to help me with the pain and insomnia associated with fibromyalgia. He does everything possible to support the patient to be able to live with a debilitating condition. As for the past personal slam against him I will never believe it of this highly principled and EXCELLENT physician. His intelligence and knowledge always amaze me - when I bring in research he is always one step ahead of me and already knows about it. He has also treated my husband who has MS and has made an incredible difference in the quality of his life. I highly recommend him and would go to him even if I had insurance and had to pay out-of-network fees. Written by PBK in Hillsborough, NC

After two years of requesting him to complete unfinished paperwork, charts and answer correspondence to insurance companies & others, Raleigh Neurology suspended and ultimately fired David Cook. As part of his suspension he was required to turn himself in to the NC Medical Board as a disruptive physician. The woman who complained is telling the truth.
