In my 70+ years i have had the opportunity of getting a good understanding of our medical scene. Dr. Chawla is outstanding. Clear, empathetic, to the point his delicate work which can be daunting for a patient was more than well appreciated by me. And to add to the picture, his support staff are friendly and helpful ensuring that everything runs smoothly and on time. For those in my age bracket requiring a urologist, this is your man.

Excellent surgeon, he performed a ureteroscopy laser lithotripsy followed by stent removal after 1 week on me and I didn't experience any pain, burning nor urgency after either procedure.

Dr Chawla is an amazing doctor and a very kind person and I highly recommend him. On the other hand, his receptionist at the Bloor and Jane office is very rude, unprofessional, lazy and ignorant. I hope that this problem at that office will be solved soon.
However, the receptionist at the St. Joseph's hospital location (Justyna) is very nice, helpful, understanding and professional. Thumbs up to her!

This place is a complete joke. They keep scheduling phone calls with me, and nobody calls. The receptionist is rude in every single opportunity she has, and laugh at you when you’re trying to get a sooner appointment, or at least some help. They have been promising to call me for 7 months now. They schedule it with you, and simply din’t call. Then, you get another appointment, and no call again. Then you get another appointment, but then they’re going away on March break, and reschedule again. I’ve never had a single phone call from this doctor. It’s a completely waste of time, and they don’t care

If I could give this guy a lower score I would, but it won't take zero stars.
Worst doctor I have ever seen.
He misdiagnosed me for 5 years.
He fed me meds I never needed for those 5 years, meds with irreversible side effects.
He botched my cystoscopy by ripping me open and sent me home bleeding like a sieve.
He insisted I did not not know what I was talking about when I questioned his misdiagnosis; twice...
I had an 8 cm urethral stricture; an average one is 4 cm in length.
This would mean he couldn't see anything during my cystoscopy, because he couldn't get far enough to see anything.
And rather than send me to another surgeon who could do a simple test, he scheduled a procedure that he would perform.
A procedure that was unnecessary, and cause me to have pulmonary edema in recovery.
So, now I had wasted 5 years, on drugs I didn't need, and had a surgery I never needed, and ended up with a weaker set of lungs, a suprapubic catheter, and a scheduled appointment with a the second best surgeon in the province for my condition.
You see, the best surgeon in the country wasn't available now, because he was retiring and no longer taking on new patients.
Had I been sent for that simple test, I would have been cured about the same time by the best guy who happens to work in the same city I live in, and not in Hamilton.
A trip that had to be made over a dozen times in all kinds of weather conditions...
And after 5 years of unnecessary drugs and treatment, this guy had the nerve to say to me,
"We shouldn't dwell on the misdiagnosis, we need to focus on you getting better".
Not even a simple apology, instead he ran off to hide and sent in the resident for the balance of my recovery.
I've heard of this from friends before, but never encountered it myself.
Younger doctors that will dismiss a suggested diagnosis because you're not a doctor.
And they're the ones that went to Med School for sooooo many years, blah, blah, blah...
Pure hubris at its worst.
You'd think the fact that I was fit, active, and 30 years younger than his average patient might have made him clue in sooner...
What a nightmare !

I underwent prostrate cancer surgery at Saint Joseph Health Centre by Dr Chawla and his team. He was caring and compassionate and I appreciate his bedside manner. I was very nervous before surgery but he helped me remain calm with a sense of humor.
