I think he is an a**hole. I have have Type I Diabetes for almost 15 years now and he treated me like I was newly diagnosed. Yes, he went to school and got the degree, but technology has changed, Dr. Schaffner. Maybe you should try updating your knowledge -- its not 1983 anymore. I thought he was extremely arrogant and definitely has little-man-syndrome. I wouldn't waste my time with this guy and the only reason I am seeing him is because I need to see someone local. He really didn't tell me anything I needed to know. Also, any time I had a question, I made sure I politely interjected and didn't interrupt. Still, anytime I wanted to respond to him, he held his finger up at me and told me to "hold on." He is a very rude Doctor. My dad is a physician in my hometown and he would never treat his patients like this. Maybe its time for Schaffner to retire.

I have been a patient but have never actually "seen" him - if he's going to operate this way he should at the very least educate his staff - I was 2 weeks away from seeing him when I called for supplies to my insulin pump that I've had for 7 years -his nurse practitioner told me to just check my sugar every two hours and treat accordingly until my appointment two weeks away because I had missed an appointment I wasn't allowed supplies

On our first visit Dr. Schaffner was personable and seemed to care about my daughters condition with thyroid cancer. On our second visit It was like Dr. Jekyell and Mr. Hyde or should I say Dr. JERKell. He seemed annoyed as soon as he came in the room. (which we waited for two hours after our scheduled appt. time) I told him my daughter was experiencing fatigue and depression. He became condescending and told her straight up to learn to "deal with it" their was nothing he could do. C a sleep dr!

As ex Air Force, Dr Shaffner saw a need for better treatment at the Montgomery VA. He gave up a thriving private practice to serve those who are serving their country. My other doctors say he is the best Endocrinologist in Montgomery.

Well, I think it should have been made clear to me before I saw the dr. that he did not accept insurance. I was shocked after the fact and very dissappointed. The receptionist blamed it on my referring dr., that he should have told me. They took forever to check me out, no one even would tell me what was going on. There should be a sign posted saying they don't take insurance. The receptionist even asked me when I first got there what type of insurance I had. UGH. Makes me mad. I liked dr. schaffner, he spent almost an hour with me. Although it seems he was wanting to test me for things I didn't think were necessary. Won't go back because I can't afford it.

That was a huge difference from my experiences with another endocrinologist in this city. I feel like I will have a true care "team" after leaving his office.

Doctor very knowledgeable and caring. Staff needs to be more caring and frienly, they barely even speak to the patient, and it would be nice if they smiled.

Staff a tad slobby. Dr. did not seem very "with it" concerning the problem I saw him for. Although his advertisement touts him as being a "specialist" in this area. I remained ill under his care for 11 months. I ended up receiving far better care from an Internal Med. physician and the problem was under control by my 2nd visit with my new Dr.
