Having extensively researched surgery options, I chose Dr Darryl Hodgkinson and team to perform my rhinoplasty (nose) and blepharoplasty (under eyes) due to their excellent reputation for patient care and beautiful results. I am delighted to share that both procedures have been a wonderful success. I’d also like to highlight the fantastic care I received throughout the process. From start to finish was well-informed and felt completely safe and looked after. A big thank you to the whole team. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

I am writing this review as I have been a patient of Dr Hodgkinson for a few years now. I first saw Dr Hodgkinson at his Double Bay rooms and Surgical Clinic in 2019.

I had three procedures done by Dr Hodgkinson. The first procedure was a full facelift. The second procedure was removal of pectoral implants and a subsequent gynecomastia surgery to remove excess kin and tissue from the chest. The third procedure was incidental to the full facelift and was a blepharoplasty which was the removal of a small amount of skin from each other eyelid.

I have to say that getting plastic surgery is not a small decision as I found out. There is a lot of press around different procedures. And a lot of opinions out there.

I but I found Dr Hodgkinson to be a thoroughly professional surgeon. He is the opposite of all of the Cowboys that you see floating around on social media. Dr Hodgkinson presents himself as a true surgeon and his standards are as high as you would find in any major teaching hospital. The experience is the same as if you were seeing a Consultant Surgeon at St Vincent’s Hospital for example.

Dr Hodgkinson‘s clinic at Double Bay in Sydney is an accredited surgical centre. And he employs a full surgical, consult, and after-care team. Every person I dealt with at the clinic had the highest standards. And the reception team is incredibly helpful, client focused, and very knowledgeable.

Discussing the surgery with Dr Hodgkinson, getting ready for the surgery, and coming in on the day of surgery were all incredibly professional and hassle free events. The surgery in my case did not go without complications. I but that is the nature of any surgery with any surgeon.

I was actually more impressed with Dr Hodgkinson due to the way he handled the unforeseen complications. It did mean that I needed to go back and have a second and third small revision surgeries six months later, but I’d rather have a surgeon who identified complications and had a plan to deal with them, than see a surgeon who tried to cover-up any complications.

So, it’s two years down the track now. What advice would I give to somebody who was looking to get a major cosmetic surgical procedure?

Firstly, seeing Dr Hodgkinson would be a good first step. Even if you don’t select him as your surgeon, Dr Hodgkinson will be able to give you an even-handed and very realistic view on your propose surgery. It doesn’t cost that much to see him initially.

Secondly, I think it’s really important for anybody considering major cosmetic surgery to realise that it will take a fairly long time for scars to resolve and heal fully. Everyone is different. And after two years my facial scars have faded to almost being invisible. At the first six months after surgery I certainly felt self-conscious.

Thirdly, I think anybody considering major cosmetic surgery should go in with the opinion that they may need the first surgery and then possibly subsequent refining surgery. That’s not everybody obviously. But it was the case for me.

So. My surgery experience wasn’t an In and Out affair. There was subsequent surgery required. But I can’t find a single bad thing to say about Dr Hodgkinson and his staff. They have incredibly high standards and work as a great team.

My surgery with Dr Hodgkinson and his team was October 2021.
Dr Hodgkinson was amazing in his understanding of what I wanted to achieve and explaining the process of how he would make that happen.
The team was so caring and It is always a joy to visit the clinic. I am still amazed at the result .!!!

10 August 2022
It is one year this month since my “facelift”. I went to Dr. Hodgkinson through the recommendation of a friend who had a facelift from him and was very happy with her results. I consulted him specifically to have upper and lower lids done, a mole removed from one lid and a chin lift. I had a few frown lines on my forehead and between my eyebrows, sagging upper lids, a large mole on one lid, wrinkles on the lower lids, and sagging chin/neck/jowls.
Dr. Hodgkinson told me I was an excellent candidate for this surgery and recommended a facelift without the forehead lift, to include the upper and lower lids, the jowls/chin/neck lift. He also recommended lip enhancement and a lip lift which he said would give me a more youthful look. He assured me he would correct the chin/neck/jowl area, give me a natural looking upper lid, remove the mole with the upper lid correction, and smooth out the wrinkles with the lower lid lift. He also stated he would put small implants under the arch on my eyebrows which would help smooth out the frown lines.
When I came out of surgery I had a large dark purple haematoma on the left side of my face next to my mouth and down my chin. This did not dissipate for about 9 months. He did not remove the mole on the eye lid instead he had a biopsy done of the mole, not in the agreement, and left the mole on the lid. He did not do lip enhancement which I paid for or eyebrow implants. I also had a beauty mark on my cheek that I asked him to leave alone, instead he zapped the beauty mark to remove it but left the big mole on the upper lid that I specifically asked him to remove. There was no evidence that he did any surgery on the lower lids.
The lip lift was a farce with very little evidence that it made a difference except the stitches under my nose were crudely done, the right side is a tiny bit higher than the left and my right nostril is smaller than my left. He did not do the lip enhancement as agreed and paid for. To this day I have very sloppy holes and redness from the stitching from the lip lift which are very visible and my mouth is crooked.
I have a hollow below my left cheekbone and a sagging jowl on that side. The whole left side of my face and mouth sag, the jowls are still visible and the stitching from the chin/neck lift is also crude. The skin on my upper lid is loose and saggy and the wrinkles under the eyes are still there the same as they were before the surgery. I want to cry every time I see my face in a mirror or a photo.
Having a facelift is not for the fainthearted. It is very serious surgery with no guarantee of the results; hence we must sign waivers stating the results are not guaranteed which means the surgeon is covered but the patient lives with the results. Even though the agreement said corrections can be made after the initial surgery, I would never return to this doctor and allow him to do any further surgery on me.
I saved my money for a very long time to get this surgery and it was a once in a lifetime event for me. I am brokenhearted at the results and the money I lost for procedures that were not performed and for such an overall bad result. I will have to just live with this as I cannot afford to pay another doctor to correct the bad job Dr Hodgkinson did. He is a very nice man and sure he was a good surgeon in the past but would not recommend his surgical ability now.

I had a rhinoplasty (alar base reduction and bone & cartilage grafting) and in addition very thick skin (no breathing issues though). The result is incredible and looks very natural- my nasal skin is very thick and oily. My whole nose was narrowed & tip/bridge built up & suits my face well – Dr Hodgkinson has an excelled aesthetic eye. Dr Hodgkinson is a caring, professional and skilled surgeon. The staff are lovely & helpful. The added bonus is Dr Hodgkinson operates his own theatre. My surgery was in March 2022 (interstate traveller) – the recovery was really smooth for myself and if I had any queries the nursing staff were able to promptly assist. I had bone grafted from elbow to build my bridge instead of rib cartilage and I much prefer Dr Hodgkinson’s approach after researching a few different surgeons/reading their techniques. I would highly recommend Dr Hodgkinson – this was my first ever cosmetic surgery and I felt comfortable throughout the entire process. He is also well credentialed/experienced so I felt very confident given my difficult nose and the result I ended up with is nothing short of amazing to me.

I had a facelift and rhinoplasty with Dr Hodgkinson 2 weeks ago. My healing time, recovery and most importantly my results at this stage have exceeded my expectations. I have minimal bruising and swelling, I look and feel great! No more saggy neck and jowls and my nose is perfectly straight. I can't thank Dr Hodgkinson and his team enough for everything! I am so grateful. The nurses are amazing and my pre and post operative care was second to none...thank you Tania, Sue, Cecilia and Trish. If you are considering facial plastic surgery I strongly recommend Dr Darryl Hodgkinson. He is simply the BEST in his field.

I was left severely deformed after a botched rhinoplasty surgery. He removed too much cartilage and my nose collapsed, I was left with a Polly beak deformity. I had to go to another specialist to have it corrected, he told me it was one of the worse rhino surgeries he’s ever seen. Absolutely would NOT recommend.

Dr Hodgkinson and his team are professional and amazing. From the first consultation, to surgery and follow up appointments I felt comfortable and knew I was in good hands. Any questions or concerns I had pre/post surgery were always responded to promptly and with care. Ofcourse, the surgery results I could not be happier with - life changing. I would highly recommend Dr Hodgkinson.

My surgery was 14 yrs ago but still can not get over it how I been butchered up from Dr Hodgkinson. Take me many years to get here finally give a review what exactly happened with me with my first ever breast augmentation .
I payed the same amount money like any others but I was a last one 6th one that day which is a lots of surgery for one dr for one day. Of course my turn was around 6 pm which is late so nurses been so hurry quickly feel out my details what is should be done much earlier. I been told hurry bec it’s very late. I was confused what is a big rush for me surgery like this a big think.Anyway surgery done and I woke up next to the other woman who just had a same surgery too! Hmm that was very weird how the dr can operate 2 ppl in the same time??Well I was wrapped around my chest area without drain tubes which is now I know very wrong.actually I believe the dr teach someone on me because no passible he can operate 2 person the same time. Well when bandage come off I almost crayed. Implants was so high up with hanging nipples but I traveled back to my home because I been told from the nurses need 3 months to droop the implants to the right place. Well it’s never happened , on the top I had extreme pain so I decided to go back to him and telling him it’s not what I payed for of course that time was a top money for it. You believe or not he refused helping me and walked out from the room. I never in my life felt so hopeless and disrespected than dr Hodgkinson did. His a money hungry person who do so many surgeries and do not care about his patients.I had few surgeries with other drs after this and they fix his or his student mistakes but I never will forget how I was treated by him. If you do not want to feel like you under butcher hands please choose someone else. I just told my story what I should say many years ago but this is a truth story about him and his surgery place. Hope not many ppl butchered up as I been.
