If you should be a patient at Washington Hospital Center, you’re in for an unpleasant experience if Dr. Southwell is your attending physician. Dr. Southwell spent very little time with me and did not effectively manage communications with the other doctors assigned to my case. Several of the other doctors said to me that I was ready to be discharged, but Dr. Southwell was nowhere to be found. Around 4pm that day I was able to contact her at her home and her response was “nobody told me and I’m already home.” As a result of her mismanagement, I spent another day in the hospital before being discharged. Furthermore, when I spoke to her on the phone that afternoon, she promised that she would stop by my room at 7am the following morning. She arrived at 10am with a Starbucks cup in her hand. I would not recommend Dr. Southwell.
