LaRoche did surgery on two eye muscles for strabismus. He told me after the surgery he never touched my inner eye muscle despite my eye having a bigger eye turn after surgery. I had to request my surgery notes from the administration office because I felt my eyes weren’t the same only to find out he did surgery on my inner eye muscle which only made it worse. I was terribly disappointed with LaRoche for being so dishonest and making my eye turn much worse . He refused to do surgery again and I have to live with the result .

I suffered complicated strabismus as a result if a traumatic brain injury..After seeing many opthamologists here in Halifax for cranial nerve damage causing the problem, I was referred to Dr. Laroche. While I sometimes felt strange, a grown adult going to the IWK, I was extremely fortunate to be treated by Dr. Laroche..

Before you let anyone perform eye muscle surgery on you make sure you know exactly what the surgeons plans are for you and that both of you are on the same page as far as your expectations go. Eye muscles that have had previous surgeries are very unpredictable and the permanent redness in your eye gets much worse with each surgery. Finally ask your surgeon if you can have a second surgery if the first one is not successful. If you have had repeat eye muscle surgeries in the past chances are you will be dissapointed with your new results. I am not a doctor but have a long history of disappointments with eye muscle surgery over many years with different doctors.

I understand this doctor comes highly rated however be very careful when choosing a starbismus specialist. There are many starbismus specialists in Canada, unfortunately only one in Nova Scotia. Don't be hesitant to go out of province for one. I find Dr LeRoche overworked and rushed. I was also surprised he wouldn't look me in the eye when speaking to me , he would be reading my file and never looking up to speak. He only reads your file when he enters the room, not before. I have also found that the assisting Doctor with him called a fellow would have a completely different opinion than Dr LeRoche himself. My experience was not a good one from day one and would suggest you google "starbismus specialists in Canada" and check out your options. Having said all of that I found his support staff to be very good,

Dr. LaRoche has been seeing my 2 year old daughter since she was 3 months old. She was diagnosed with Congenital Glaucoma at about 4 and a half months and has since had 5 surgeries and multiple EUA's. When her pressures got overly high Dr. LaRoche referred us that day to a Glaucoma specialist at the VG and made sure we got in. He has been nothing but good to us and to the point. I am so grateful to have such a exceptional Ophthalmologist in Nova Scotia.

My daughter was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis at 3. Inflammation of the eyes due to the JIA started at 5. LaRoche was charming and informative on our 1st visit. Subsequent appointment care deteriorated rapidly. Her exams were done by interns with him giving her eyes 2 mins at the end. One intern I talked thru the exam as she didn't appear to know what she was doing. LaRoche didn't bother to do an exam himself that day. We refused to see him further as we had an excellent ophthalmologist at home. When her eye pressures began to rapidly increase due to the medications she was on, we went back to him and he dismissed our concerns, annoyed. Fortunately our DR referred us to a glaucoma specialist, implants were done immediately & my daughter's eyesight was saved(she's 17 now). We were referred to the eye clinic during a recent rheum. clinic visit in '13 & ironically saw him. After disparaging our clinic DR for sending us, he bragged about his new $5K eye pressure instrum.

I had my strabismus surgery about four years ago by Dr. Laroche. I never had any problem regarding my eyes through previous years. we had check up visits every six month after my surgery for 2 years. I owe my confidence to Dr.Laroche and that surgery made a huge change in my life.

Hi there all .I have 2Sons that have been seen by Dr .Laroche now for 18 years .They both have a very rare eye disease .He has done a tremdous job with both sons.If he felt that there could be someone out there with a better opinion on my sons eyes condition he sent us there. His bed side manners has been nothing but firm to the point and gracious. His secetaries has been most helpful and knows us by name and greets us with smiles. The interns has to see the children first because it is a training hospital and they have to train somewhere and I say training under Dr.Laroche will be the most beneficial learning experiences they will have in there life time.I have seen young and old go in and out of there doors in the 18 years that we have been going there. From my experience from all the other hospitals and doctors I've seen from Ontario to Newfoundland they are the best .Thank you Dr.Laroche if people don't respect you then they themselves don't need your help .

Dr. Laroche has been following my daughters strabismus for almost 3 years now. He just recently performed her first surgery 3 months ago and everything went perfectly! He is very straight forward and doesn't sugar coat anything, but he does his job very well!
