Dr. Thompson support staff is incredibly rude and do not do their job. For the last 3 years I have had to call the office to book my follow up appointment. Dr Thompson always states my secretary will contact you regarding follow up they never do. Last time Dr. Thompson said I need to see you in 2 months no call from secretary so again I called and told the secretary he wanted to see me in two months but she was booking 7 months a head and squeezed me in for a 6 month appointment. This time I thought I will wait and see what happens if I dont phone and book myself an appointments sure enough I get a call that I had an appointment March 3rd but they can see that no one contacted me. With so many complaints coming in to my GP with other patients being sent to this office and same treatment I was able to get another Encrologist and the service with them is different from night and day not only do they book appointments they follow through with a email

Guided me through an incredibly difficult time with thyroid issues, with excellent care, knowledge and nuance. Highly recommended.

Dr Thompson’s ineptitude crosses the line over into medical malpractice and borders on criminal negligence. I had to beg for almost two weeks to get him to renew a prescription for insulin. This left me with no option but to ration my insulin.

Dr. Thompson and his staff are incredibly rude and not helpful, they treated my mother with disrespect. My mother had a hypo from high sugars levels and they basically through her out and said It couldn’t be from diabetes, but instead were treating her like she had covid which she does not. After complaining to the doctor about the way his nurse was treating us, they called security and told us to leave even though my mother was still vomitting and sweating. DIssgraceful!!! They never even offered to help! Shame on them as professionals!!!

Alright rather than write my opinion I am going to write about my 2 experiences with Dr. Thompson and the clinic.
1). Firstly I have never actually met this physician in person since I started here during COVID and our first conversation goes something like This.
Dr. Thompson: do you have any concerns
Me: Just a little bit of tingling in my toe on my left foot
Dr. Thompson: well that’s peripheral neuropathy
Me: well my previous endocrinologist who followed me for 6 years thoroughly investigated this and was seeing me in person, I had an EEG done and he was fairly convinced it was not especially given that I had almost perfect control of my diabetes for 8 years and it’s only been poorly controlled for 2.
Dr. Thompson: well what else could it be! It’s neuropathy, you’r overweight and your diabetes is no longer controlled.
Me: could it be a vitamin B12 deficiency? Also my mom has multiple sclerosis should we consider that? Also you have never seen me in person so how can you be sure it is neuropathy.
Dr. Thompson: nope it’s neuropathy it can’t be anything else.

2). Me calling the clinic to book a follow up appointment. As a preface my family doctor referred me to VGH diabetes not Dr. Thompson, he was just the doctor I had my initial appointment with
Me: hello I would like to book a follow up with Dr. Thompson
Receptionist: Ok can I have your name. All sounds pretty normal so far right, but here is where it goes wrong.
Me: Give my name and say I work Thursday-Saturday but I can come in Monday, Tuesday, or wednesday.
Receptionist: Dr. Thompson only works Thursdays
Me: Ok can I book him at the end of the day then I finish work at 3:30
Receptionist: He only works until 2:30
Me: ok how about the beginning of the day before I start work
Receptionist: he starts at 11:30
Me: ok how about during lunch time
Receptionist: he is on a break from 12-1
Me: ok how about at 1 then right after lunch.
Receptionist: ok but he books 3 patients at once so there will be 3 of you booked at 1 and you might not get called at 1 so you need to be available for at least an hour.
Me: ok can I see a different doctor then instead? Remember I can make it Monday, Tuesday, or wednesday.
Receptionist: oh you wouldn’t qualify for wednesday that’s the geriatric clinic
Me: ok how about Monday or Tuesday
Receptionist: oh no you can’t switch doctors without a referral to one of them
Me: but my family doctor referred me to VGH not Dr. Thompson
Receptionist: yes but doctor Thompson is the one you saw so now you can’t change without another referral.

Sorry long winded, I don’t think I even need to write why I rated this clinic and doctor with all 1’s. Should you guys not be trying to help your patients live fulfilling lives, it’s hard enough managing a beast of a disease like type 1 diabetes when you feel unheard and unsupported by your medical team.
